it was a bold move, driving an hour outside of town without telling a soul where she was going. her parents would’ve chained her to her couch if they’d known she was on her way to pick up her ex boyfriend from prison- the ex that they’d warned her to stay far away from all those years ago. while her sister sarah was the rebellious member of the family, sage hadn’t been able to deny the innocent, slightly naive, love she had for leonard, even after he was sentenced to a few years in jail. she’d never stopped defending him, not even when her parents forbid her from going to visit him, and her heart hummed in her chest as she found a parking spot and stood near the gate. when the gates opened and a face she’d recognize anywhere appeared, a tentative smile appeared on her face and she raised a hand in a wave. “thought you could use a ride,” the southern belle piped up, stepping forward to meet him halfway. @tvnkerbell​

“it’s freezin’ outside, please come in and have some soup, you’ve been out there for an hour,” sage pleaded with her best puppy dog eyes, leaning against the doorframe letting the chilly, winter air inside as she spoke to the boy currently removing christmas lights from the front of their house. hudson had always just sort of been around, the son of their housekeeper and now the man who took care of the stables and bigger jobs like landscaping. there was a time once when sage and hudson would play outside together in the sweet, georgia summers, but once she got a little older, her parents put an end to their friendship, deeming him a terrible influence. it was only after she came back from college that they reunited, and sage took any opportunity to hang around him that she could- which was why she was shivering in her petal pink pajamas standing in the open doorway. “c’mon, hud, no one else is home, it’s not like you’ll get fired for getting warm,” she pouted. @smpletimes​

it had been awhile since the carpenter’s spent a summer as a family in their second home in the outerbanks. her father had been busy in europe, and ever since her older sister left, the family dynamic had been a bit splintered. but sage had graduated college and wanted to celebrate, so she’d begged her parents to take at least a week or two off at the beach house, for old times sake. she promised to take care of the property for the rest of the summer, before closing it up and returning home to begin her first real job. sage certainly wasn’t expecting to see a familiar car drive past the house while she was chatting with the gardener, but as soon as she did, her smile only grew and she kicked off her sandals before running to the house next door. “bram!” she squealed as the young man got out of his jeep, her heart aching in the best way as she reunited with one of the best friends she’d ever had. @prcttyhopcless​
