21. things you said when we were on top of the world
These creatures should not be able to carry the weight of a fully grown human and Archie knew enough about science to know that had to be true. Perhaps Crobat wasn’t the smallest, but he’s been flying Archie around ever since he was just a tiny Zubat (at least during those times when Archie couldn’t avoid flying entirely) and it just made… no sense. At all. It should not be possible.
It seemed that Archie could manage to blissfully avoid thinking about how not possible it was at all other times except for when he was in the air, being carried across the mountains by the statistically impossible flight of his Crobat. It was during those moments when his brain decided to dig up every worry he’d ever had about flying and dump it onto his subconscious in one fell swoop. No pun intended…
Why did landlocked places even exist? Why couldn’t everything just be the ocean all the time? Because surfing on Sharpedo was so much easier and made so much more sense than this did. If there was anything that might make Archie go back to his plans to flood the world and start over, it was flying, even if it was selfish to think that. Crobat was trying his best to make this as painless as possible for Archie. It wasn’t Crobat’s fault that humans shouldn’t be in the air.
Archie didn’t even realise that he had his eyes jammed shut until he felt a hand press against his arm. Then he opened his eyes to see Maxie, staring across at him with what was probably meant to be his best comforting smile. Archie nodded at him. He was fine. Totally fine.
Maxie nodded in return, but didn’t let go of his arm, because he must have known that Archie needed the support. He was… good like that. Even if most of the time Maxie was insufferable, he understood Archie better than anyone and they both had so much pride between them that Archie knew that he could count on Maxie to bring this up again once they’d landed. This was just between them and the sky.
With that in mind, Archie felt a bit better. Because he knew that Crobat wouldn’t let go of him while they were in the air. And neither would Maxie.
Hey I just wanted to say that I thought your "February 15" story was fantastic, and I love the way you draw Maxie and Archie as well (especially Archie's hair and how he sometimes has a piercing, aww). Also the last lot of sketches you posted, Archie appeared to have his arm in a cast for one of them? Is there a story behind that too?

Tbh I think scruffy, wavy/curly-haired Archie is the best Archie. And the ear piercing is a nice touch I also like to give him. Glad you like them!
As for the injured arm, in my canon, when summoning Kyogre and Groudon there is a cave-in and boulders and rocks start to fall so of course they don’t escape entirely unharmed. Archie breaks his wrist and Maxie gets hit in the eye with a rock so when I draw them right after the near apocalypse they caused, Archie has a cast in his arm and Maxie has a swollen eye and is wearing his old glasses because the ones with the blinders are completely ridiculous.
In short, it’s for continuity sake in my own headcanons hahaha don’t worry too much about it
