Once underground artists start to get a little bit of show money, it seems that most aspirations for the mainstream seem to go out the door. Maybe it’s because of that focus on the music rather than the live performance though, Smug Mang has remained as hungry as ever, finally landing a collaborative project with the legendary producer Sledgren, of Taylor Gang fame. The music is an evolution for the northern-New York MC as well, based on the new levels of care shown to sonics, flow selection, song structure and more on the new project. If there was ever a starting point for a new fan to get into the Smug God’s music, I think “Fuck Yo Wave” would most certainly be it.

You can always count on Smug Mang to deliver on collaborative hits the size of Kansas. Just on this short seven track EP, the Smug God’s got at least two of them, with “Things Are Wrong” featuring Curtis Williams & Rome Fortune, and “No Fear. Pt. 2″ featuring Xavier Wulf & Eddy Baker. I don’t know how manages it, but this guy’s got one of the dopest hip-hop networks in the underground.

For an internet trap rapper that loves to talk about xanax, Smug Mang is as original as they come. His story is unlike any other, coming up on a Native American reservation in upstate New York, and his delivery is unmistakable. In a crowded musical lane, the Smug God is able to set himself apart.
