Mated
1
The Palace, Themyscira
Alone and packing. My first diplomatic mission off the island and I’m giddy beyond words. I’ve been running back and forth gathering my things for my trip, yet I have this nagging feeling something is wrong.
My mother would never willingly send me on a mission, especially in Man’s World. Something is up, but I can’t let this chance pass me by. Ignoring my worst thoughts, I double checked the chests holding my clothes and pheromone herbs.
“I know I’m forgetting something,” I mutter to myself as I rifle through my things.
“Princess,”
I heard Alexia’s gravelly voice before I felt her breathe against the nape of my neck. Towering behind me, her rough fingers crawled up my throat as she brushed my dark curls off my shoulders. The older Amazon buried her face into the nape of my neck, taking a deep breath; citrus with a note orchid. Rare... Tempting....
“... Sweet as always...” Alexia purred into the middle of my shoulder blades. “Busy packing I see...”
I recoiled slightly from my old friend’s closeness, turning my attention back to my packing.
“Don’t call me that old woman,” I spat back coldly. “And being obvious is pointless, you can see I’m packing...”
Alex scoffed, reveling in my annoyance.
“Oh, come now,” Alexia continued, her voice a dark purr. “You’re going to ‘Man’s
World’, princess... I’m just checking on your progress.”
“It’s going fine,” I replied, keeping my cold tone.
The harden Amazonian warrior paused, turned me around, and used her ruff hands to hold my face; forcing our eyes to meet.
“Male alphas are different from those of us here... princess...”
Alexia’s voice hardened as she called me that accursed title once more.
“You’re walking into the lion’s den, Diana.”
My eyes stared up at Alexia, cold and determined.
“It’s a diplomatic trip, old hag,” I hissed, pulling back. “What matter of ‘den’ do you think I’m walking into?”
Alexia laughed as I walked to another chest, checking its contents.
“Diana please,” Alexa scoffed. “You’ve never dealt with alphas like them. And you being unmated complicates things in their world...”
I stopped, gripping the sides of the last chest tight.
“I’ve dealt with you,” I replied. “And I came out of it just fine.”
I turned my attention back to packing.
“No one here messes with me, why would they do so off this island?”
Alexa rolled her eyes.
“Because you are unmated Diana!” Alexia replied, grabbing me by my wrist. “You’re scent is sweet, intoxicating... and that makes you... tempting prey...”
I glance over my shoulder, my cold blue eyes burning into her.
“I’m prey that fights back with blades and a mean right hook,”
An annoyed expression spread across Alexia’s face. Her woodsy pheromones filled the
air around us. Thick and overwhelming.
“You’re too naive... Diana,”
My words caught in my throat and I felt her presence overtaking me. Commanding me to
give in, to submit. She pulled me closer.
“You feel that,” she purred. “You feel me... all of me... You’re too young to understand, they will be worse than this out there princess, much worse.”
Alexia continued to purr, her alpha presence humming.
“I have enough restraint to remember you are a child compared to me. Male alphas don’t have such confines.”
Alexia nuzzled her nose into my neck, right at my scent gland. The scent of citrusy orchids bloomed out of me in thick waves. My face flushed from her proximity.
“Alexia,” I muttered breathlessly. “Then mark me then...”
“Not happening princess...”
I suddenly felt a sharp pin prick in the right side of my neck.
“Its for your own good, princess,” Alexa purred kissing the spot where she jabbed me.
A soft clink filled my chambers. I look down at a small syringe by my feet.
“What have you done?”
“A suppressant from Hephaestus,” Alexia purred. “To keep you safe...”
My body grew heavy. I braced myself against the chest in front of me. Alexia wrapped her stronger arms around my waist. Pulling me against her, unyielding.
“... Even if you hate me for a while, little princess,” Alexia continued into my back.
Alexia’s voice cracked as she held me upright. My body felt numb, less than. I wanted to curl inward and nest. To be somewhere I felt safe.
“Hippolyta shouldn’t be sending you out there unmated,” Alexia muttered into my back. “It’s not safe for someone like you, but since she won’t see reason, I’m making you safer. I’ve packed enough for a month. Inject yourself twice a day and it should make you smell like a beta female.”
My lips pulled tight at her words as the numbing sensation ran through my veins. My body being managed because it was defective. Amazons were a rare group of alpha females and strong betas. But me, I was born wrong. A lone omega in a sea of predators. And right now, I felt like prey. Weak and vulnerable.
“I hate you,” I muttered. “I hate you, you old hag!”
Alexia purred, her whole body pressed against my back.
Alexa answered, cold and dominant, “And you’re going to draw too much attention out there, smelling like you do...”
I scoffed, “I can handle myself. You of all people should know that, you trained me.”
“I can’t train you to handle the presence of a strong enough alpha,” Alexia replied. “You can barely handle me... and out there alpha males are more persistent.”
I sighed, hating the fact she was somewhat right. Nature was nature no matter; how much I suppressed myself; I was still an omega... just with a sword and spear.
“You worry too much for someone who doesn't want me,” I replied, pressing back against her.
Alexia smirked, “You’re overconfident princess... and about to be late...”
Alexa released me, after placing a kiss on my back. Turning me to face her she said.
“Just come back here unharmed princess.”
Alexia’s eyes look genuinely worried. I held her hand. Rubbing the back of her hand with my thumb.
“You’re worse than my mother, you old hag,” I smirked. “It’s only a few weeks... What could possibly go wrong in a few weeks.
Two days later.
Night, Gotham: Sin City Gala
“Are you sure I’m allowed to come here Dinah?”
A smoky laugh filled the night air as a beta female, Dinah, grabbed my arm. Pulling us forward, Dinah handed a red envelope to a burly looking guard in front of the Grand Gotham Hotel with a full-face mask on.
“Good Evening Miss Dinah,” the guard said.
The over muscled man looked me up and down. His eyes drawn to the deep v of the dress Dinah lent me. His nostrils flared, trying to place my scent. The burly man looked puzzled as he turned his gaze back to Dinah.
“Is she yours?” he growled softly.
Dinah smile grew wider.
“She’s with me, Bane,” Dinah replied, holding my arm tighter. “She’s an honored guest and off-limits big guy. Get too close and you’re going to be deaf in both ears.”
The guard Bane shook his head. Opening the door he said.
“Try not to break the windows if you do so. ‘Bats’ will kill you if you ruin another one of his events with that voice of yours...”
I looked a Dinah confused, whispering.
“You broke windows, with your voice?”
Dinah pulled me into the building, ignoring my question.
“It’s water under the bridge, my little Amazon friend,” Dinah continued. “Tonight is about showing the real raw nature of this world and not the stuffy Watchtower J’onzz insists trapping you on. Plus, you need to meet the rest of the team...”
“The rest of the team?” I asked, following behind her.
Dinah pulled me into a grand foyer of glass and marble. I felt every eye land on me.
“Well, most of the team was handling global crises when you arrived,” Dinah replied calmly. “And there are all here, well the should be. Blue is usually late because of a yandere...”
“A what?”
Dinah smiled, booping my nose with her index finger.
“Don’t worry your little head about her,” she replied. “She’s banned from anything ‘Bats’ organizes.”
Dinah stops in front of a large glass door. Two men stood on either side. The men nod at us before opening it. A rush of strange scents hit me like a wave. Strong scents, hundreds of them pressing against me. Dinah leans in, whispering.
“Can’t have reporters seeing the worlds heroes like this, can we?”
“They’re like you?” I asked softly.
Dinah smiled.
“Like us.”
She pulled me into the room slowly. A sea of bodies pressing against each other. Fangs, claws, and all matter of creatures were dancing under the strobe lights.
“The teams in the VIP section...” Dinah mouthed as she pulled me deeper into the mass of moving bodies.
Moving through the crowd, I felt everything. Even with my nature suppressed, it was overwhelming the amount to pheromones mixing around me. At the VIP door, Dinah flashed a big smile.
“Black Canary,” she said, looking back at me. “And guest...”
The rope moved.
Dinah pulled me through as I continued to gaze back at the main room.
“Everyone, I’ve brought Diana!” Dinah shouted.
When Dinah stopped walking, I bumped into her.
“Sorry,” I muttered.
“No worries,” she replied.
She lifted her hand and pointed to the men and women seated around a u-shaped couch.
“Meet the team...”
I glanced up, meeting everyone’s faces. Working from the outermost part of the couch, to the furthest in the center, I took in their faces as Dinah introduced them. Barry, Jordan, Arthur, Zatanna, Mari... As she reached the middle of the couch, the lights barely illuminated the last two figures. I stepped out from behind Dinah to greet them but a pair of red eyes stared back from the shadows.
