i dunno, man, i've pretty much resigned myself to square enix being unable to make unconvincing romances several years ago. but like, ffxv has been in development for so long that i would at least expect it to be hashed out in some kind of way that would make some kind of sense.
i'm not even against any of the guys being with girls--heck, i headcanon prompto as bi, and gladio and noctis as pan, it's just there's no real development between luna and noctis, y'know, the game's presented romantic couple. you've got this character who forgets or doesn't talk about luna for 90% of the game or avoids discussion topics about her and has this child-like fondness and gaze for luna, like he still holds onto that child-like view of luna and fondness for her, and square could've talen better steps to have them fall in love.
but with the way things were presented, all i got from it was that noctis was following through with his dutiesas the prince and thinking of his people and kingdom's safety and the defeat of nifleheim and luna was more dedicated to her job as the oracle and fulfilling her and noctis' destinies than actual feelings for noctis.
no doubt that noctis and luna value each other, you can't deny that, and it would be nonsense to argue that neither don't think of the other as important but square enix missed out on developing them into something more and it just physically pains me that the game automatically assumes that you'll assume they're in love with the vague and limited interactions noctis and luna have.
like i could handle it even more if it had noctis and luna actually interacting and barely speaking of each other in most situations.
it's just boring and bland and that ending just felt like a weird left field kinda thing like these two barely interact or talk about each other and fulfilling obligations forcing them togrther and y'all think it's enough to make me think they're in love? heck, i'm more inclined to believe noctis loves fishing more than luna with how much noctis spends talking about it or playing games on his phone with prompto than how much he really talks about luna.
tl;dr: this isn't to demean luna and noctis' relationship but it's mostly disappointment that noct///luna could've been handled so much better and could've had more compelling storytelling that ot just fell flat.
