Scrolling through sailing footage and came across a rather memorable experience. Dad and I went to a snake show in Phuket, Thailand that featured a segment where they invited people in the crowd to put a finger in a snake's mouth. Dad and I refused, but then watched as a middle aged Belgian woman happily jaunted down to do it. Unable to meet each other's gaze and overcome with shame, we went back to the snake show the next day specifically to conquer our fear. Getting down in the pit and crouching at eye level with a pissed off snake might be the most counterintuitive thing I've ever done. Very nerve wracking. Totally worth it.
