Battle of the Murals: Sneakers Clash

This weekend some lucky artists have an amazing opportunity - to create a massive mural on a wall in Borough, all paid for by Converse (and free shoes, oh the envy.)

There are 6 teams and 3 walls, but I chatted to Charlotte Munro about her collaborative mural with teammates from BA Fine Art Painting at Wimbledon, as they battle against MA Illustration students at Camberwell (guys, if you read this - I didn't know how to find you!) for the chance to win £1000.

Congratulations on the amazing opportunity!  What has the process been like, from hearing about the opportunity up until now?

Have you worked collaboratively before? What pleasures and perils have you stumbled along working in a group?

C: We were all part of the exhibition 'Exquisite Corpse' where we exchanged old or, felt could no longer continue, works of our own and displayed them. We've never collaborated on a mural before as a group of artists, but the mural is coming together as we learn to work as a team.

You have until tomorrow, but what was the first day like?

C: Today was mostly the base layering, lining, getting the overall shape and colours in so we can add details all day tomorrow. We're only using spray paints provided by Amplify / Converse and some emulsion for finer details.  First time for some of us on scaffolding, so personally I was absolutely terrified because I was standing on (really safe... allegedly) wood panels and poles!

The winning teams will be announced on Monday after Dazed and Confused have finished judging. 

You can see the group in action tomorrow (Sunday) from 8:30am (ouch) to 5:30pm and give them a big motivational cheer, they'll be at 30 Crosby Road near Borough Station, and probably covered in paint.
