Rin Penrose 2 being in a spaceship but also apparently in a flat somewhere in the UK makes me believe that after crash landing on earth via an altercation with The Moon, he spends his majority of his time in this flat (he’s got to keep his ship in hiding) but tries to set off on another journey on a couple nights in the week, sees The Moon, or the moon/s of other planets, gets scared, and goes back to earth. He never learns. It’s possible she just keeps forgetting about the moon/s.
The altercation with the moon is also what made his lose his leg (supposedly) and is the reason her hair is going white.
