thinking about sniper!boyfriend!bucky today because this song (take me out) came up on my daylist and something in my soul ascended

sniper!boyfriend!bucky who swears he's the picture of professionalism - and then proceeds to trace little hearts on your cheek, shoulder, or chest with his red laser when he’s bored on overwatch duty.

you never notice, but natasha totally does and doesn't hesitate to call him out on the team radio for it

sniper!boyfriend!bucky who flirts shamelessly over comms because there is nothing he loves more than trying to make you break character while you're undercover. he times comments flawlessly and becomes insufferable if he can get a twitch of a smile out of you.

“blink twice if you miss me,” he murmurs while you’re trying to get into position. “bucky-” “that’s not a no.”

sniper!boyfriend!bucky who is undisputedly the best sniper on the team (even though he doesn't snipe very often). he's got the record for the longest shot post-blip at 1245 meters - crosswind, moving target, which he also downplays as 'decent weather that day'.

sniper!boyfriend!bucky who actually prefers the cold. the lower the temperature, the steadier the hand. heat makes him restless and foggy. snow on the other hand, unfortunately feels like home.

sniper!boyfriend!bucky who gets grumpy when he gets benched for minimum rest periods and someone else is assigned to be your sniper cover.

you tease him that he's territorial, and he just grumbles under his breath about what he'd do to them if they miss a single shot

sniper!boyfriend!bucky who was so emotionally constipated that (before you and he got together) he'd sooner throw himself into a path of a speeding bullet for you than actually say that he has feelings for you.

obviously, it happens right after a mission. you're both filthy, muddy, definetely sweaty but also a little high on adrenaline. bucky's doing his usual thing - packing up his rifle, avoiding your eyes, brooding a little because you almost got hit. you're talking to distract him, something light (team gossip, mostly), but also things like, "you know, you're a menace behind that thing. ever thought about using your powers for romance instead of violence?" that gets his attention. he looks at you, confused. so you grin, "bucky i'm taking you out! pew pew!" and finger gun at him. the pause that follows is for the books. you swear you can hear the safety click off somewhere in the distance. he blinks. "....you mean like actually -" "yep, like that. if you want to." he short-circuits visibly. you've seen him dismantle assault rifles faster than he processes that entire exchange. he tries to recover with a smirk, but it doesn't quite work. he just looks floored. "you, uh... you usually this aggressive when you ask someone out?" "only when they make me wait this long."

yap! i wish he was real so he can take me out (in any way he prefers - date or target - im not fussy at all)

Bucky took in a slow breath, man after young man passing in front of his scope. “In that split second, right before you blow their brains out, you see what a human face looks like when it’s stripped of all hope.” Bucky chanced a quick glance at Steve. Soooooo I’m sick as fuck right now, and my #1 sick show is Forensic Files. It’s this true crime show where they show you how they science the shit out of murder cases to catch the murderer. Anyway, I started thinking about your one WIW AU, the one where Nat calls Bucky “dead-hottie-walking,” and I can totally picture Tony having a sick day, turning on the show, and being like “Hey Nat didn’t we kill that guy? The show called him a family man restaurateur, why did we kill a family man (1/3)

restaurateur?” “Because the restaurant was actually a front for child trafficking and the wife found out. You planted the clay particles they’re about to find that framed his brother.” “Oooooh yeah.” Then Bucky walks in during the next episode and realizes that he killed one of the suspects from this episode. “So he was guilty?” asks Nat. “I dunno about this particular case, but he was definitely guilty of selling biochemical weapons by the time I was introduced to him.” They keep watching (2/3)

the show all day and find three or four more cases they were involved in, either with gathering information or actual assassination. “This is so neat,” says Tony, almost totally out of it. “It’s like they’ve scrapbooked out careers for us.” (3/3)

I hope you’re feeling better now, hon! Being sick sucks :/ The headcanon you’ve brought me on the other hand is glorious! 

I don’t know this show in particular but I think Tony would be the kind of guy to love it. He probably insists they catch up regularly, in case any of their new jobs come up. Tasha tolerates it (read: it amuses her, and despite her resting bitch face she’s terrible at denying Tony anything that makes his eyes light up with genuine amusement) and Bucky thinks it’s useful information gathering. It never hurts to get an insight into how the police look at the crime scene they left behind after all.

Now I just imagine the three of them, cuddled up together on the sofa, talking about their past jobs (especially the ones they pulled off before they knew each other) and despite the whole assassination/murder aspect I just want to coo at them and bring them hot chocolate lol

Plagiarize that Bucky sniping post as much as you want (I love your work)! Tho I'd like to add that a lot of people have messaged me about how he probably wouldn't have had to shoot so far as frequently as we'd like to believe in the war. Plus, it's more impressive that he didn't have a spotter (someone who points out the target) anyway.

I’m glad to hear plagiarism in the name of Bucky is okay. :) Thank you! I couldn’t remember the specific post when I wrote Among the Lilies, but I kept thinking, “There was a math post. Math. Uh, somewhere in the abyss. Where was that?”

And I’ll take Bucky as any sort of crack shot, long distance or not! (Besides, Steve tells him, after dragging him away from the range and Barton. Clint needs to be better at something, Buck, and you already upstaged him making omelets last weekend so stop trying to use a bow.)
