I'm doing better than I ever was;
from SNL's snapchat
He missed one note, that he couldnt finish, and from then on he looked so upset with himself. At the end it looked like he was about to cry :((( God, he was so hard on himself. This is such a difficult song to sing, and he still sounded absolutely amazing!!! I hope he knows that!!! I'm so so proud of him
that song is just. so incomprehensibly hard to sing? like i don’t even understand music that well but holy vocal acrobatics bub!!!! and for him to do as well as he did? i hate that he’s beating himself up, he sounded just absolutely lovely. god!!!

I'm in love with ESNY and I really wanted to know what you think about the song as a whole. Thank you, love!😘
Oooh I love ESNY too. I think I addressed what I thought about it on a very long post I wrote on Saturday night or Sunday morning right after SNL ended, and I don’t know what else to add but I’ll try.
So I really like it. It’s very simple, the same melody throughout the song, which is similar to SOTT, but Harry is the kind of artist that doesn’t need a very complex chord progression to explain something. It’s very soothing there’s something about it that just carries you, I don’t know if it’s the fact that it was basically 4 guitars, no bass and drums (at least it sounded like that) and the little folk is very cute and quaint. It might sound kind of sad but it’s also very happy like you’re expecting it to turn into this huge cinematic folk song that just lifts up your spirits. (I’m almost 100% sure it has no minor tones in the tune which makes for a happy sounding melody, but the lyrics are sort of somber and deep which i think makes for a beautiful contrast and something very Harry)
I love the harmonies with the voices, I love that it’s short, gets the point across, leaves you hanging and also very content with what you listened. When it ends it feels like this big deep breath you didn’t know you were holding and you just let it out. I already have visuals in my head and I’m imagining a field of flowers and tall grass, wide cinematic swoops, shots of various objects like photographs in a cabin, a flower in the wind, the ripples in the water, that help tell a story, also something homey around the fire. IDK I’m insane and that probably makes no sense but I’m making music videos in my head 24/7.
CANT WAIT TO HEAR THE STUDIO VERSION! I’m sure it’s going to sound even more grand and beautiful and harmonised. I also feel like this is a closing song. The simple chord progression allows for the band to stay with the same uplifting tones adding a powerful drum pattern while Harry waves at the crowd in his concert. And right before he leaves the stage the lights dim as he goes down on a ramp or something and the band stays for a little longer and then there’s a huge “all the love always -H” on the screens, there’s a big perfectly harmonised chorus of “ooohhh tell me something i don’t already know” and silence and the concert is over and you’re happy and pleased and calmed down, ready to head home.
And since I would hate to be repeating myself here’s a link for you to read my complete breakdown of our baby’s SNL performances :) which I think he rocked. I would love to hear what YOU think of ESNY so please do stop by and tell me or submit something if you want to, I really want to know.
