Update: Pete gave his opinion on vaccines and seemingly said goodbye. The end of year Jost/Che joke exchange was certainly memorable! Cecily brought our her Pirro impression and definitely put the prop department to work with that vat of wine.

Musical Guest: People are only going to remember the wardrobe malfunction but I thought the second song was very good!

Cameos: Akira Yoshimura and Chris Rock.

Cast: The distribution of appearances was perfect for a season finale. Everyone got to shine in their own way and you could feel the joy they all had. What a huge change from the first episode!

SNL Review - S46E19 Keegan-Michael Key/Olivia Rodrigo

Cold Open: The CDC Players, A-

Monologue: Keegan’s Doing it All, B+

Sketch 1: Prom Red Carpet, A-

Sketch 2: The Muppet Show, B

Sketch 3: Birthday Dinner, A-

Sketch 4: Tribute to George Gershwin, B+

Sketch 5: Graduation, B+

Pretaped Content: The Last Dance, B+.

Update: Kate as Liz Cheney was truly hilarious. Andrew’s segment was surprisingly successful! He had a good read on the crowd and played into the portions that didn’t work as well as he’d hoped. Beck as the horse trainer was also pretty funny.

Musical Guest: Like every human with ears, I absolutely love drivers license. Plus it was great to see her on the show this season after that great sketch they did with Rege-Jean Page!

Cameos: SNL writer Steven Castillo, Kermit, Statler, Waldorf, SNL writer Gary Richardson.

Cast: Everyone got a fair amount of screen time last night which is great! It’s nice to see the featured players feeling more comfortable as the season comes to a close. Plus you could feel palpable relief through the cast after last week’s fiasco of a show.

SNL Review - S46E18 Elon Musk/Miley Cyrus

Musical Guest: Miley 👏 should’ve 👏 hosted 👏 Cold open? Marvelous. Both musical performances? Spectacular. Chad in Space? Great.

Cameos: The SNL moms, Miley’s mom, Grimes, and photos of Tina and Questlove.

Cast: Despite the episode being a mess, several players got to shine. I keep saying it but Ego is going to be a huge star. This season in particular she’s truly honed her craft and I’m so excited for her current and future success.

Update: Chris’ Obama and Beck’s Springsteen were shockingly good! Punkie’s Pineapple was funny, a surprising choice for her. Also Bowen’s Iceberg that sunk the Titanic was so unexpected it was hilarious.

Musical Guest: I can’t say I know anything about Kid Cudi, nor am I a fan of his music but I love that he wore a dress! Normalize👏men👏wearing👏dresses👏

Cameos: Marcus Mumford, Timothee Chalamet.

Cast: Two weeks in a row we haven’t seen Melissa! Maybe she’s working on another project. Cecily was also missing, though her void was filled by Aidy and Kate’s incredible chemistry.

Update: The ladies of Smokery Farms were back with even worse animals for you to eat! I truly adore those characters and their very real reactions to room temperature raw meats. The Guy Who Just Bought a Boat went over surprisingly well with a small crowd, as did Heidi and Mike’s new characters. 

Musical Guest: I am not a fan of St. Vincent’s music but I’ve heard she’s a cool person. The only thing my gay brain knows about her is she’s part of that ever expanding web of wlw celebrity relationships.

Cameos: None.

Cast: Melissa hasn’t had many huge episodes this season. Other than her Dolly impression on Update, I can’t recall any big moments for her which is a shame. Also every week I become more and more impressed with Kenan who’s able to make us laugh on Saturdays even after flying across the country twice every week.

SNL Review - S46E15 Maya Rudolph/Jack Harlow

Cold Open: MTV Spring Break, B+

Monologue: Elder Advice from Maya, B+

Sketch 1: Hot Ones, A-

Sketch 2: Vice Presidential Seder, B+

Sketch 3: Dance Rehearsal, A-

Sketch 4: The Barfly Awards, B+

Pretaped Content: Boomers got the Vax, A-. NFT Rap, B-. The Maya-ing, A-.

Update: I feel like I say this every week but Cecily does such a good job playing all of these terrible women! I love how she turns these monsters into hilarious characters. Also Bowen’s segment was wonderful.

Musical Guest: Not a fan of his music but he certainly rapped in the taped piece!

Cameos: Martin Short, Tina Fey, Rachel Dratch.

Cast: Maya and Kenan’s comedic chemistry is like a fine wine, it only gets better with age. Though Maya was the star of the show, she let the cast members shine too which is just what an alum should do.
