Verse 6: Some Not Natural Shit

Neil Hargrove comes from a family of hunters. Hardened men and women who only care about killing monsters; just not the ones they were raising. Each generation as toxic and abusive as the last.

He met Billy’s mother on a vampire hunt in California and decided to give up the hunter life. They married and had their son, William Arthur Hargrove. Billy. Things were good for a few years. Until Neil’s anger issues came to light and he was hurting both mother and son.

Billy grew up in the abuse and didn’t understand why his father would sometimes treat his mother like she was a monster. Saying she was a shapeshifter or a ghoul. It became too much for his mother and she left. That’s when Billy was shown what a hunter was.. and he hates it.

He was too soft so his dad hit him. Told him he had to kill or be killed and put a little boy on the line to see how willing he was to live. No matter how often Billy cried and screamed that he was scared, Neil wouldn’t care. He just waited to see who would win; the monsters or the frightened child. There were many close calls.

By the time Neil met Susan and married her, Billy Hargrove had grown to be a decent hunter who hated his own father more than the monsters they hunted. Especially when his father seems to think being gay is just as much a crime as being born inhuman.

Now they live in Hawkins, Indiana where monsters seem to be crawling out of the woodwork constantly.
