media literacy on this website would improve dramatically if people understood that “the narrative portrays this behavior sympathetically” and “the narrative endorses this behavior morally” are not actually the same thing. a story can be interested in someone’s loneliness or fear or reasoning without asking you to agree with what they did. sometimes the point is just that people become understandable long before they become justifiable
