Platonic GenCass Headcanons
Genji and Cassidy initially became friends because they both instinctively talked shit about a target while on a Blackwatch mission, and then both proceeded to tell Gabriel to f off when he told them to stop. They've been inseparable ever since
Cassidy has always had an Overwatch comm on him, but Genji threw his away when he started on his journey of healing. Still, he finds ways to hack into and send messages to Cass' comm, just to confirm that they're both still alive
Genji's dragon and Cassidy's Deadeye are companions. Not exactly friendly, but they care for their owners, and their owners care for each other. Being around the other can help settle them (and may have some spillover effects...)
Genji keeps a quote book for the dumb stuff Cass has said
Cass keeps a photo album of the dumb stuff Genji has done
They both frequently blackmail each other with aformentioned quote books/photo albums. Its not REALLY blackmail since they're both ride or die anyways, but it's the thought that counts
They have a made up language. it's some odd mix of Spanish, Japanese and English that is mangled into something only they really understand, with messed up syntax that they completely made up
Cassidy tries not to smoke around Genji too much, since it messes with his synthetic lungs and often sinks into his circuitry
Genji and Cassidy frequently reminisce on the old days. They find that sometimes, the only people who listen and really understand how they feel are each other
(They know that the others would get it too, but it's not the same. They weren't in Blackwatch. They didn't have the same troubled pasts. It's not something they think of often, but sometimes... sometimes it's good to get those feelings out in the open)
They gave each other matching tattoos when they were blackout drunk one day. Both have had touchups. Neither have removed it.
Honestly I could do so many hcs for them... their friendship is so special to me. If you have a specific concept you want me to go further into (for any of these, really) I'm sure I'd have a fun time with it :D
Romantic Gency Headcanons
Angela keeps each of the letters that Genji has sent her over the years in a well maintained folder, hidden in her room. She takes them out to reread when she misses the sound of his voice
Neither of them are very outwardly romantic, but it's obvious to literally anyone who knows them how head over heals (pun intended) they are for each other. It's all in the quiet looks, the gentle smiles, the comforting contact
Genji likes to cling to Angela. He's very physically affectionate in general, but he can't seem to help himself around her. Always grabbing her hand, or leaning on her, or giving her hugs.
Angela is the definition of "I hate ALL of you. You're AWFUL. Except you sweetheart you're doing amazing". The rest of the team are mildly (reasonably) scared of her, but Genji hasn't felt fear since he tried crack for the first time. And she doesn't really try to scare him that much either.
Angela likes seeing Genji without most of his armour on. It makes him feel more present, and he is attractive underneath it. Genji was surprised to hear it at first, but upon learning that she likes his face, he unsurprisingly teases her about it all the time
Genji doesn't need sleep and Angela doesn't like to. He has mastered the art of making her go to bed without getting grumpy.
Along that train of thought- Genji likes to spend time around Angela when she's asleep, even if he doesn't really need to. It's comforting to be in her presence, especially when she's relaxed. He meditates at best when she's by his side, resting away
Angela kisses Genji on the mask every now and then, since she can't kiss his face. Genji will get flustered every time, regardless of how often she does it.
Genji goes out of his way to impress her. It frequently ends badly, but he makes her laugh, and god knows she needs it.
They go on the world's sappiest dates. Sunset boat rides. Picnics at the beach. Movie dates. They're SO adorable it drives the rest of the team insane
Angela keeps one of Genji's ribbons tied to her wrist, and Genji uses one of her hair ties to keep his own tied up
These are very sappy nsdjsndjnads. Gency is very sweet to me <3 literally one of the most loving and genuine ships I can think of for this fandom. A rare case where they make each other better in pretty much every way.
I hope you liked these!! T'was fun, looking forward to writing some others :) I feel like I could have branched out a bit, but to be honest... why fix something that isn't broken. Their dynamics are well explored and for good reason. And I'm not here to psychoanalyse them, just to give some silly thoughts <3
