First is Kari from Snow Walker by Catherine Fisher, a novel I’ve never heard anyone else talk about.  I believe she’s most well known for Incarceron but Snow Walker and the Oracle Prophecies series are why I love her.  Kari is poor boy and nobody loves him (except Jessa, otp) but I love him so very much.  His mother is terrible.

Second I just wanted to throw a quick Dar from the Dragonkeeper Chronicles by Donita K. Paul here as well, one because the books are not popular (perhaps because they are fantasy Christian fiction, who knows), and two because I don’t like how Dar and the doneels are shown in the official art.
