The sheriff had left a small present on Vi's desk the night before, after Caitlyn had ensured that her partner had gone home for the night. Within the plainly decorated box was a santa hat and a note which read "In return for your present on this year's Harrowing- I thought it only appropriate to get you something equally as festive. Stay safe, as always. - Cait"
It always bothered the pink haired officer to rise before the rest of the city but such was an obligation that she knew needed to be seen through in fear of the city’s sniper wrath later in the day. And on Snowdown of all days, Vi thought bitterly as she walked up the steps to the station while her hand dug around her jacket pocket for her keys. You’d think she’d let the a poor soul like me sleep in as a gift or some shit…
The police station’s lights flickered to life as room by room was passed through, the Enforcer yawning and grumbling while her cold fingers searched for switches along the walls. It was still empty, not to her surprise. She was sure each and every one of their officers and even their secretary, Miranda, was home with their family and loved ones either still asleep in their beds or digging into a freshly made meal. Or for the kids they’d probably be tearin’ their presents’ wrapping to shreds.
As Vi rounded the corner towards where the Sheriff and her shared an office—not that she herself even used it; hell, Vi referred to it as only ‘Caitlyn’s Office’ for that reason—and her fingers found the lights, she was surprised to see what looked to be a gift perched atop the dark wood and loose papers of her desk. The Enforcer didn’t recall anyone leaving anything of the sort before she’d left and at that time of night she’d been the last to go save for the Sheriff.
Her heart began to pound wildly in excitement, violet hues widening in anticipation and minor confusion as to why the Sheriff who was notorious for her cold treatment of her deputy would go to such lengths as to leave Vi a gift—
When she’d finally gotten to the inside and spotted the festive article, the bruiser immediately pulled it from the box and slung it over her mess of pink hair. It sat snugly on her head and brought a wide smile to her lips that was so full of joy that it made her cheeks sore. Glancing back at the box to see if she’d missed anything, the officer caught sight of the note that had gone with it. After picking it up and reading the message from her higher up, Vi could only feel a warmth fill her at each of Caitlyn’s words.
By the time Caitlyn would arrive, she would be pleased to see a fresh cup of tea on her desk alongside her own box of donuts, each of her favourites included in the dozen with another separate box of biscuits beside them.
