This is my beautiful girl Adena (A-dee-na.) She is my shy sweet girl and the way I became her new home was a bit sadder... with a happy home for nureya and valteon I was very pleased with life and did a bit of math for my budget plan. I realized I could actually afford to feed another gecko. With that seed planted I started browsing online again.
When I saw her I was a bit intrigued because of a few things. 1) Her price was really low compared to the rest of the geckos. 2) She was beautiful. 3) I had never really heard of the breeders before. Now I will not name them because I don't want to start bad gossip. But upon ordering her they seemed a bit confused and disorganized. The gentleman I spoke to tried to ship her on the wrong day and did not answer many questions I had. Never the less we got things straightened out and she was mailed.
When she arrived I was a bit concerned cause she seemed a lot more slender than the photos lead me to believe. She was especially jumpy and not prone to touch, which told me she hadn't been handled much if at all. But what concerned me more as the days passed was that she wasn't showing any interest in food after one week or even two. A month passed before I tried to contact the breeder. Up until this point I had tried feeding her my staple roaches, mealworms, wax worms, and super worms. She showed no interest what so ever in food. I told the breeder my concern and asked what he had been using. He confirmed he had been feeding super worms daily (I'm a touch skeptic still that they were actually doing this) and he suggested I try to spark her appetite by using liquid vitamins.
I couldn't acquire the liquid vitamins he said he used but what I did was use Repashy Grub Pie for a few weeks. At first she fought very hard and didn't want to have anything to do with it. Gradually though, she started to lick up liquid grub pie and her appetite got better and better. I decided I would try to leave a roach in her take over night and she if she took it. On the second night it disappeared. The next night I left another. And that one vanished. Finally I caught her munching the third roach after almost 2 months of not eating and I was so excited! Since then she is eating like a champ and starting to put on a bit more weight. Also started socialization.
Since then she has been a dream she is terribly sweet and still a bit jumpy but coming out of her shell. She loves to perch on my shoulder and climb things as well as hide in odd little crannies. She is a utter sweetheart and I'm so glad she came to my home and finally became comfortable with her new home. I hope you enjoy seeing her develop and grow as much as I do.
