Ever since I was little, I’ve read that Snow White and Cinderella were “bad” role models. They’re “weak,” subservient, meek, man-chasing, etc. I’m here to tell you that you are WRONG. Both young women are survivors of abusive households. Both of them find ways to cope with their terrible situations and are still kind, forgiving, optimistic, and selfless. Just because a princess doesn’t wear pants or pick up a sword doesn’t mean that she’s not a feminist icon in her own right. Both of their stories teach us that it’s okay to cry, that chasing your dreams is within your grasp, and that friendship comes from unlikely places. Both of their stories encourage us to be kinder to ourselves and others, and to forgive those who have done us wrong in the past. Do NOT tell me that they’re bland when Snow White and Cinderella both serve some sass and stand up for themselves! Anyway I’ll fight you. The end, thanks for coming to my Princess/English Teacher TED Talk.
