i think not enough is made of the fact that peter is such a people person and yet when we meet him he doesn't seem to have any friends. based off what we see and the scattered tidbits we get about his childhood, his whole life seems pretty fucking lonely if you discount nathan, which you can to an extent bc he was gone so much of the time and he's emotionally holding back quite a bit even when he is there. also something about peter being a hospice nurse, spending so much time + emotional bandwidth in these connections which r doomed to be fairly short-lived, not that that makes it any less fulfilling or crucial of course but it's probably not the healthiest work for him to be doing when you consider how few relationships he has otherwise. he seems generally well-liked and there were a fair number of (mostly nameless and never seen before or after) ppl at his graduation party and all that but you'd think that this 26 year old man would have a close friend. who isn't also his brother who's also his soulmate..

which is part of what intrigues me about the two of them bc nathan is surely (through no fault of his own..mostly) the major factor in why peter feels so unspecial and imo lonely, by virtue of being the perceived golden boy who always got all the attention, which peter is clearly bitter about at times and which you'd think would've soured him on their relationship or at least driven him to foster closer relationships with other ppl but it seems that nathan was also always the salve for those feelings of alienation and they're both soooo fucking clingy and crazy about each other. and also their codependent soulmatism in conjunction with nathan's lengthy absences + the treehouse of it all makes me wonder if peter's psychology is rooted in the idea that the most meaningful connections burn bright and fast, which would make it difficult for him to maintain longterm relationships of any kind and would also explain his career choices + his desire to Save The World. as a natural consequence of his deeply rooted sense of morality and empathy and his desire for some sense of purpose yeah but also the need for love and connection which feels largely unattainable in a healthy/stable way and so he ends up abstractly projecting it onto Everyone Everywhere to the point of martyrdom bc otherwise it'll just eat him alive from the inside out. or whatever

#when your circle so small that your best friend your husband and your only sibling r the same guy #i wonder if perhaps the latter shaped the former to some extent LMAO #i jest but that is surely a huge part of it....#heroes #petrellicest #i have to assume that loneliness is a major factor in his desperation to do/be something special #and why he felt so lost prior to his whole world-saving mission #especially given the layers of his sad lil ''i'm not really anything on my own'' comment re: his mimicry power #and it breaks my heart that this guy who doesn't think twice about risking his life for a total stranger seems so alone for the most part #which..again. wonder if these things r connected . . .#he's traumatized and maladjusted too it's just less blatant than nathan's whole deal bc it tends to manifest in more palatable ways #and self-sacrifice to the point of burnout and/or death is glorified to a ghoulish degree #like. the motivations (and eagerness) to do so aren't really questioned much bc it's seen as a purely noble—and at times necessary—act #and he's a very charming adorable dewy-eyed peace n love cinnamon apple sweetie pie. BUT #he's also emotionally dysregulated to say the least. somewhat unhinged. and he seems to have trouble connecting with ppl on a deeper level #outside the context of work. whether it be his actual job or the teamwork/shared trauma of some crazy apocalyptic happenstance #and he approaches the relationships he does have in an immature (sweetie)pie-in-the-sky kind of way at times despite his good intentions #more specifically im thinking about the (non-nathan) love interests he's had #and how superficial that shit feels and how shockingly quickly he seems to recover from their untimely demises #particularly simone who he claimed to have been in love with (since the first moment he saw her which....ok. case in point kinda lol)#which ppl seem very eager to chalk up to bad/rushed writing but mannnn idk it makes perfect sense to me when you consider how he grew up #the neglect. lack of healthy relationship models. the intense and somewhat inconsistent nature of his most significant relationship etc etc #he genuinely cares A LOT about people but those feelings seem difficult for him to channel into more intimate connections #and so for the most part he ends up channeling them into his attempts to protect the entire fucking planet earth #but also basically everything's cool at the end of the day as long as he still has nathan #alas poor lovebug....#and of course the way that his empathic mimicry manifests at the beginning of the show is the perfect embodiment of all of this #having the capacity to share anyone's power but operating for months under the assumption that all he can do is fly bc that's nathan's #so naturally that's the one that he obsesses over and dreams of and unconsciously manifests the second he wakes up in the morning. anyways #clink clink.. (<- my two cents)

I am spinning a self-indulgent pirate au just because i think the horror squad would have a lot of fun being a tiny crew that still manages to be enough of a menace to get the goddamn navy on their asses. and yet they are never caught

Every time someone asks who the captain is they give a different answer. It takes people far too long to realize this. this causes a few accusations of misogyny and/or racism to fly when some people insist one is the captain in front of people who were told it was one of the others. the three of them are greatly enjoying the chaos

They have a deceptively small ship, and unless their target is also a very small one, they sneak aboard at night and steal as many shinies (and often food) as they can, and killing whoever's awake. maybe a few of the ones who are sleeping (usually people of higher ranks) if they're feeling extra chaotic. Then they leave. They have a hideout on a little island not too far from the mainland, where they keep all their treasure. they got a piano there somehow and frankly they're still not sure how they managed it, but it's their most prized possession just by virtue of how hard it was to move the fucking thing. they also have a violin and guitar and play together pretty often.

Their hideout also has a hidden bunker with their most important shinies (and less shiny treasures. like the goddamn piano) are kept, and if they see a ship approaching they'll just go hide in their. They'll grab as much as they can from the main area, because they don't want all of their hard-earned shinies to just be stolen from them, but a few bits of treasure are a small price to pay for their freedom and lives. They never leave enough in the main area for anyone to figure out its them, so most people don't look too hard for secret hiding spots.

I was going to have Kevin be a parrot but now I’m considering some kind of sea monster. Something that looks like it wouldn’t be intelligent but he very much is and enjoys helping his mortal friends out. Possibly they feed him some of the people who have the misfortune of being awake when they board in the middle of the night to steal stuff. Not sure if he should be like a leviathan tho or something smaller that can maybe come hang out with them on their island. Maybe their bunker has underwater access. The exist is too far for a human to swim, but Kevin can pop in whenever no problem. He chills and sometimes even sings with them when they play
