they’re both the same person
Here's my take on MISHA'S ideal ending for Cas
Cas was going to be killed off no matter what. There was no getting around that at all. Misha was approached by Berens on the confession and Misha had two choices. Don't do the confession and have him just die, or have Cas confess his feelings before he dies. If I was in Misha's shoes, I would have done the exact same thing.
Obviously, as bitter Cas fans, that ending was completely unsatisfying. Castiel was reduced to existing ONLY for Dean and having ALL of his actions be because of Dean. I will be furious about that forever.
But, we have to understand something.
Misha had been hoping for a queer take for YEARS. He knew where a lot of fans stood and he fought for shipper fans to be seen. I mean shit, he even bickered with Jensen about the whole thing. Destiel was something Misha was incredibly close to so for him to fight for that confession makes complete sense. Plus, we all know him well enough to understand that, if a queer take was on the table, no matter what, he was gonna try and fight for it. To give him Castiel's confession/sacrifice was perfect for him. FOR HIM.
Obviously the entire topic was taboo as Misha himself didn't believe the scene would get greenlighted. He was so nervous, they held off asking Jensen for MONTHS. He honestly believed that Jensen would have killed the whole thing. But he didn't. That in itself tells you how big this was for Misha. He didn't just WANT Castiel to confess, he NEEDED it. He fought for it! It meant so much to him that he got publicly angry at fans that opposed it. He believed 100% that Cas not only loved Dean, but that he'd been playing Cas that way for years. That man DESERVED that ending and I will defend his opinion on that till the day I die.
I have a love hate relationship with that scene. I hate Castiel's erasure, but I love the work that went into it. The thought and love and, I'll even admit, the stories about Jensen from it. The way that man acted around Destiel and yet he allowed Misha the scene and even helped shape it to what it became. AND, Destiel was tested by the studio and, for whatever reason, was nixed by TPTB. AND STILL they managed to get that confession scene greenlit. I mean guys, the beat TPTB in the last moments. That's huge.
(also, I just wanna point out that TPTB fought destiel tooth and nail, Misha gets his confession, and it trends over the election. That man had to have been feeling GREAT after that)
So yea, as a bitter Cas fan, I hate the confession, but as a Misha fan, I fucking love it. We all knew WE ALL KNEW Castiel was in love with Dean. It's the one irrefutable fact in the entire show. EVERYONE knew this. So in a way it was nice to see Cas get to be his true authentic self in his last moments. I just wish it wasn't the ONLY thing he is remembered for.
