i finished detroit: become human recently and while i did find the alice reveal shocking, i do feel like it ruined her story for me a little bit. not enough to tamper my enjoyment of kara’s section of the game, but i did like the narrative more when we thought alice was a human rather than an android.

there was something beautiful about alice connecting with androids more than humans, because androids have treated her with more humanity than her own kind. each perspective of the game featured a unique bond between an android and a human (connor + hank and markus + carl) which i suppose is why the reveal that alice is an android ended up being shocking, but i did feel like the story was more impactful when it was a little human girl who didn’t care whether kara was an android or not because she was simply her mother.
