This is going to be an incredibly niche post that I’m sure no one but me will care about but. Every now and then I just remember that the Homo Longi/Dragon man skull is officially a Dennisovan and I just 🤯.
“We finally know what Dennisovans looked like!” Is my much nerdier version of my occasional “omg Phan was real the whole time,” epiphanies.
Like. Listen. For 15 years there was a whole entire species of humans that we had next to 0 bones for, and we only knew existed because we found their DNA in what tiny fragments we did have. We knew they interbred with both homo-Sapiens and Neanderthals, and that some populations of humans alive today still have 3-5% Dennisovan DNA. But until last summer we had no idea what Dennisovans looked like. But now we have a type specimen!! We can identify more of them!! After 50,000 years we can see the faces of these people our ancestors must’ve once known, maybe even had families with.
Like. Ya’ll I’ve been waiting for Dennisovan skeleton almost as long as I’ve been into Dan and Phil. Literally this was in the top 5 on my list of scientific questions I wanted answered.
Your telling me that in the span of a few months I got to see one of my favorite questions about pre-history answered AND my OTP got confirmed real? What even was 2025???
