- 6w5 -

The 5 wing enhances the cautious nature of a core 6. 6w5s are perceptible and knowledgeable. Self controlled and ethical. Although they like to be independent, they still value relationships with others. Seeking relations helps soothe the insecurity and fear they feel inside.

- 6w7 -

The 7 wing can make the 6 core more charismatic and enthusiastic about life and people. They value relationships and will try to honor their commitments and promises to others. 6w7s can be light hearted and can use humor to soothe their inner insecurities.

Disintegration: 3

Disintegration to 3 can cause a 6 to become manipulative and dishonest in order to save themselves. They can be more competitive and arrogant in order to hide their inferiority complex; throw themselves into work to garner achievements. They are shamelessly self promotional in order to gain the acceptance they long for from others.

Integration: 9

Integration to 9 allows a 6 to relax. They learn to let go of their fear. Anxiety no longer holds them back. An integrated 6 grows more comfortable with their own choices and develops more self confidence. They are self assured individuals.

Subtypes of 6

- Sp 6 -

Sp 6s are the most fear driven subtype. They see the world as a very dangerous place and so will put in lots of effort to relieve this fear. They may do this by trying to create an atmosphere of safety. This can be done by seeking out resources and reliable people and relationships who can provide protection. This type can be pessimistic as they always think about what can go wrong first. They don't mean to be a downer though - they just want to be prepared for any bad situation.

- Sx 6 -

Sx 6 is a counterphobic subtype. This subtype can be a little aggressive and rebellious. They take an offensive stance against fear rather than letting it run their life. They can exaggerate certain qualities of themselves in order to appear attractive. Sx 6s may put others through a series of trust tests before deciding to truly open up and depend on them.

So 6s fear being excluded. They find safety being included in communities or big groups in general. They want to play an important role in society in order to have some sense of control and security. Being very committed and conscientious individuals, they also expect the same from others. This subtype also tries their best to be seen as trustworthy and reliable. Although usually skeptical of others, they can be very supportive and loyal when their trust is earned.

Enneagram 6

Need: To find security, and support.

Belongs to:  Head triad. The compliant head triad that searches, creates, or works with a support system that would help them survive.

Sixes are extremely misunderstood . Mainly because the coping mechanisms are so different for each of the subtype. In addition, because people tend to type based on a given list of features explained in books, and in other sites, a lot of 6s are always mistyped.

6s want security. They want a dependable source that'd provide them with the necessary resource when they fail to come up with a solution. They have to tendency to be over-prepared compared to 7s because they prefer knowing what they have to deal with, rather than escaping from it. They are more realistic than a 5 would ever be, because they understand that not all problems can be solved by themselves, and withdrawing and theorizing about the problem doesn't make it go away.

One interesting thing about 6s is that they are not exactly loyal in the way you assume them to be. The main object of a 6 in any situation is to make sure that they have security. Anything that provides them security, is a dependable source to rely on. So therefore, 6s are loyal to anything that can support them. This can be their ideals, religion, particular person, or a community. And they won't question it's choices. Until they start feeling unsafe in it. And once they do, the 6 wouldn't hesitate to walk away from it.

The reason why 6s are so hell-bent on attaining a support system is because of the lack of trust in themselves, and in their external environment. Somewhere in their life, 6s were made aware that they can't rely on themselves. So they tried to rely on an external environment and also realized that...it isn't really safe. So now, they just keep switching back and forth, trying to figure out the safest, and the best option for them in that particular moment.

Wings

6w5: A 6 with serious trust issues. They would much rather come up with a self-support system than seek for it externally. w5's fear of being incompetent can also make this 6 extremely learned, resource-focused, and more of a survivalist. They can be very anti-social, fearing that they might trust the wrong person, and ruin their security.

6w7: A 6 with anxiety-issues. They have a lot of trouble trusting themselves, and their thoughts regarding a particular situation. Is more prone to "if everyone is doing it, I don't see why I can't". Doesn't have trouble sticking to groups, and moving on from them once the security is no longer being met. More friendly than w5s.

Subtypes:

Sp: 6 that understands that gaining resources provides them security. They go about with it by avoiding unnecessary trouble, which can make them come off as being warm, friendly, and nice. I think the primary reason for this is that these 6 also fear that they don't really have the physical or mental resources to stand up for themselves, so they would much rather avoid a situation that would put them in that position, than directly engaging. They are also more likely to stick to a particular person, or an ideal that would help them attain their resources in the safest way. eg: Ussop, Chopper, Armin Arlert.

So: This subtype would more likely focus on creating an environment or a community where everyone together could guarantee each other's security. This makes them look like So 1, however the primary driving force behind this action is the need for security and protecting, and not anger. Furthermore, So 6 would do everything in their power to protect this environment, since they depend on its existence. Eg: Suguru Geto, Floch Foster

Sx: This is an interesting one. This subtype makes 6 to move towards the problem and solve it, contrary to how 6s should work. The reason behind this is that, despite the fear, the intensity and the need to merge with security is far exceeding. So, they end up having this mindset where they think being the more aggressive or powerful one would reduce the impact of the problem. They tackle problems head on, come off as aggressive to the point that you might consider them being 8s. However, deep down they are scared that they're lack of aggression would let others take advantage of them. Furthermore, once they realize that they are no longer in danger, they lose the aggression and pretty much go back into being like the other two subtypes. eg: Eren Jeager, Kyo Sohma.

📚 How many layers do you typically use?

This absolutely depends on the illustration but for a basic coloured drawing of a person it's usually only like. 5/6-ish because I put all the lineart on 1 layer and all the colours on 1 layer.......

If it's a drawing with a ton of effort then I'll have like 5 different lighting effects and 6 more background layers etc....

Common Misidentifications for Type 6

6s are not only the most common type in the enneagram, but also the most diverse and misunderstood. 6s are commonly mistyped as 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s and 8s, there are many reasons for this, so it can be difficult to distinguish between these types.

Misidentifying 6 and 1

These two types can be mistaken as they are both likely to follow the rules and are both quite uptight, as they are both in the Compliance triad. However, 6s and 1s follow rules and do the right thing for different reasons. 6s follow the rules of their authority figures because they are loyal to them and they think it is safer to follow the rules than to make trouble. Conversely, 1s follow their own moral code and if they think a rule is unjust or wrong, they will seriously attempt to change/reform the rules. 1s also try to do the right thing because they want to be good and they will usually make their own principles, rather than following an authority figure or belief system.

Misidentifying 6 and 2

6s and 2s are not commonly thought of as being mistyped, however there are a lot of similarities between the two types. These two types are both in the Compliance triad. 6s and 2s can both be described as people-pleasers, however, their reasons for doing this are different. 6s people-please because they want to be liked/belong and they also think that if they have a support system it will be better for their safety and security. On the other hand, 2s have a more overt way of people-pleasing and desperately want others to rely on them and need them. They are not as concerned with having a support system for safety. In particular so, 6s can be mistaken for 2s as they are more sociable and outgoing than other variants of the 6.

Misidentifying 6 and 3

6 and 3 can be commonly mistyped as they can both be prone to becoming workaholics and both are concerned with gaining success. The similarities between the two are more pronounced in the 6 if they are in the lower levels of health as 6 disintegrates to 3. Additionally, both 6 and 3 are part of the Attachment triad, meaning they have similarities in their relationships with people. The main difference is that a 6 wants to become successful and gain wealth so they know they can be stable and have security, they have no desire to be ‘the best.’ Whereas, 3s are hyper focused on their image and want to be ‘the best’ at everything they do. A 3’s whole identity is wrapped in their need for success.

Misidentifying 6 and 4

6 and 4 can be mistaken as they are both in the Reactive triad, and they can have some similarities depending on what group a 6 is loyal to. For example, if a 6 becomes loyal to a certain community that promotes being an outsider, they may become concerned with being ‘unique’ to fit in. Additionally, 6s can be very aggressive in defending their belief system and will take a strong stance against outsiders. This is because a 6 wants to protect their belief system or group. However, 4s may feel like they don’t fit in, but they won’t see this as a problem, and they won’t change themselves to become part of a group.

Misidentifying 6 and 8

6 and 8 are commonly mistyped, especially the one-to-one variant of the type 6. These types are both part of the Reactive triad. 6s and 8s are both very concerned with loyalty in relationships and will react badly if their trust is broken. Male 6s in particular may try to cultivate personal strength so that they can be seen as strong and be less likely to have their security threatened.
