We laughed lightly, shaking our heads as we adjusted the pillows beneath us. Nakita kong napapikit na si Andreau. “Matulog ka na nga, Francisco!” sabi ko. Tinaasan lang niya ako ng kilay. “You need to sleep. Everything’s gonna be fine tomorrow, promise.”

“Matulog ka na rin, okay?” he clutched his blanket to his chest and slowly closed his eyes. “Goodnight, Scheherazade. Matulog ka. Wag na makulit. We’ll talk about this again tomorrow, okay?”

“O sige na nga. Goodnight na, Francisco.”

Finally, napanatag na rin ang loob ko. He’s gonna be fine, Pascual. Bukas okay na si Andreau. Ilang minuto na lang matatapos na rin ang October 11. Ako? Maya-maya muna ako matutulog. Papakalmahin ko muna ‘tong puso ko! Sobrang rollercoaster ride para sa mga emosyon ko ‘tong araw na ‘to!

I was about to go back to the sofa when Andreau whispered something.

“Thank you for finding me, Zades.”

Hindi ako sure kung gising pa ba siya nun or what.. pero.. that meant a lot to me. Akalain niyo yun, kahit paano may nagawang mabuti ang pagiging pakialamera ko?

Nagdecide akong hindi muna bumalik sa sofa at sa tabi muna niya magbasa. The reading didn’t last that long, though. I spent the last few minutes of October 11 staring at him for a long, long moment before my hand slowly wrapped around his. Andreau flinched a little, somehow oblivious to my action. His breathing evened out when I started to draw small circles on his palm.

Andreau’s gonna be fine in the morning.

Everything’s gonna be fine.
