So now, at 15, Midoriya Izuku has a drag name, Kobayashi Chouko—also “Chouko-chan or Chou-Chou”—and a hacker/forum name of 93 or ‘Kyuu-san’. He is a busy boy, that’s for sure. But at least his high school is generally dismissive of him and all the work he does. His mom checks in on him from time to time—she called a whole lot at the beginning and visited often, but after Izuku insisted that she take some time to herself so she wouldn’t worry so much, she doesn’t visit as often. They still take for a few minutes every day though.
As the spring goes on, Mineta walks into Tea Cats with Sero, Kaminari, and Kirishima. During the day, Tea Cats looks innocent enough after all—close to the main road, no covered windows, nothing. It only gets shady at about 7pm. So, since it’s about 4pm, they go ahead in. Of course, Mineta came because of the Strawberry Tea maid, Mimika—bright red hair, busty, very cutesy way of speaking...it fits his niche. The other boys kinda don’t care for her so much (Kaminari’s a filthy traitor), so while they argue over which “tea cat” to visit, Sero asks Black Tea to choose for them.
They get put in the “matcha tea” area, so they end up meeting Kobayashi Chouko.
Izuku does his best show for them, recognizing them from the Sports Festival—much to their some of their embarrassment, they hadn’t thought they’d be recognized—but he assures them it’s all good. Besides, some other teenage boys visit the shop before 7pm anyway.
Izuku fishes for information from them as he does with all of his patrons. It’s just a habit for him at this point. And gosh, they may not think they’re saying much, but the boys blab a lot. Well, to anyone else, it wouldn’t be a lot, but to Izuku, it’s more than he could’ve imagined.
It helps that Mineta visits after that initial day. Sometimes the other boys do too, but not nearly as often as Mineta does.
And eventually, Izuku gets a hand on some of his contact info, and finds a way to fool Mineta into downloading a video log with several videos of some specifically tailored porn (Izuku needs some bleach, yikes).
But anyway, the trojan does its job, and Izuku has access to his phone. He uses that access to get more info on the others and uses the link he has to Mineta’s phone to get to a few others when they were connected to purple boy’s network, and then officially gets access to their group chat.
It had been someone’s idea for the chat to exist after what happened at the USJ and a few students decided to go along with it.
How nice.
Now he gets to see the lives of heroes-in-training without actually being there in person.
Which is why he notices that Iida’s not acting like him self, especially compared to his other messages. Considering what happened to his brother...that’s expected.
But then he starts seeing concerned messages through Ochako’s phone about Iida and how he’s not opening up to anyone. How he won’t say where he’s going for his internship.
So, now...Izuku decides he needs to hack a little harder.
I want ice cream but I’m too much of a coward to ask Dad and can’t drive currently.
Also I wish he would stop watching a vet show.
I just keep thinking about @kmichelletho‘s crazy anon, who has constantly been saying that Z doesn’t care about Val and that she will clearly be spending Christmas with Trevor...and I am literally laughing my ass off.
(Part 1) In response to your views about the whole Egwene in chains thing, I think you almost aren't giving her enough credit. It's been at least a year at this point (I think), so she has had some time to adjust. Then again, I've never been in a situation that traumatizing, so I can't judge that. But in that year, she has trained extensively in dreams. I'm fairly sure the Wise Ones have forced her into nightmares like she did to Nynaeve. In that case, she knows (or thinks, given how things...
…turn out) that panicking will make it real, and that the best way to deal with the situation is to stay calm and deny its reality. The second she panicked, it would have become impossible to escape. That’s why she stayed calm during the ordeal. I think that if she were ever to find herself actually chained, her reaction would be entirely different
Okay, I definitely see your point, especially with thetraining with nightmares. I hadn’t fully considered that. But…
This is a hard one for me to judge in some ways, and aconversation that I both feel I have a voice in, but also don’t necessarilyhave a right to. Because while I have been in…situations that would definitely qualifyas traumatising, I know and have been told that my reactions/attitudes to saidsituations are…unusual. And one of my own core personality traits is that I don’tpanic.
But what I feel is missing from Egwene’s reaction is…Isuppose something akin to that split-second flash of adrenaline when you putyour foot down expecting solid ground and instead there’s another step. Egwenefinds herself in chains, and her immediatereaction is just…slight puzzlement. Yes, she’s had some time to come to termswith what has happened, and she’s shown herself to be very strong and resilient(though I suppose an argument could be made that some of her tendency to push the limits the way she does is aneffect of what happened to her, but that’s purely speculative). But remindersof her captivity do still have an effect on her. She hates the sight of theSeanchan spear, and back in TFoH, in a meeting with the Wise Ones and Elayne, shehas (understandable) difficulty composing herself even when the a’dam is mentioned. And then of course, she did have nightmares after thefact for a while, and tends to react quite strongly to the idea of beingcollared or chained. It’s something she’s notentirely rational about – again, for completely understandable reasons.
So mostly what I had trouble with was that first instantaneousreaction – or, lack thereof. Even just a ‘OH FUCK CHAINS wait no this is adream, it’s not real, everything’s fine’ I would have bought no problem. But it’sthe absence of that, the sense of just mild curiosity, and the fact that it’swith Gawyn (in combination with the other things that she’s okay with becauseit’s Gawyn) that feels a bit off to me.
