Donna Mills as villainess Abby Cunningham Ewing in the Knots Landing episode entitled The Letter, originally broadcast by CBS on March 24th, 1988. Previously always cast in films and television in saintly, good girl parts ("I was tired of playing the goodie-two-shoes roles," she later stated), Mills was delighted to get the part of bitchy, conniving Abby, running with the character and starring on Knots from 1980 to 1989, returning for the two-part series finale in 1993, returning again for the two-part revival miniseries Knots Landing: Back to the Cul-de-Sac in 1997, and winning three Soap Opera Digest "Outstanding Villainess: Prime Time" awards along the way. Arguably a stand-out in the long-running nighttime soap opera's star-studded cast (which included Julie Harris, Alec Baldwin, Michele Lee, Joan Van Ark, Michelle Phillips, William Devane, Nicollette Sheridan, and a guest-stint by screen legend Ava Gardner) as well as one of the 1980s "Queens of the Soaps" alongside Joan Collins, Morgan Fairchild, Diahann Carroll, Linda Evans, and Linda Gray, Donna's riveting blue eyes and eye makeup started a fashion trend during the decade and she released a popular (and very camp) "how-to" makeup video under the title featured above in 1986, with an updated version in 2000. "Early on in my career," she explained, "I'd go into the makeup trailer, and they'd spend an hour doing my makeup, and I would hate it. I'd go into the bathroom, wash it off and start over again, which took an enormous amount of time. So I just started doing it myself."
Celebrating her 85th birthday on December 11th, 2025, Donna remains a great beauty (as seen below) and she continues to work in both films and television. "I'm back to doing everything I used to," she recently said, "loving life as ever!"
We’ve been having a lot of fun creating food-inspired soap lately. This carrot design uses the negative space embed technique.
We went all in on this soap. It’s made with avocado oil, avocado butter, and of course, Avocado Fragrance Oil.
