wtFOCKDOWN DINSDAG 14:17 (clip 20) my thoughts
My initial reaction after seen everyone's reaction on Tumblr was shock. Just going by what everyone was posting. However I decided to watch it and form my own opinion. So I watched it (yes I paused it in the middle of watching it because I felt like I was intruding on their privacy). But this got me thinking. Why did I have to pause it? Why is sex or portrait of sex still a taboo in 2020? Was it hard to watch because it's a teen show and the characters are teenagers? Or was it because it's based off a beloved show and characters that most feel the need to protect their integrity? Or maybe its because these characters are so loved and the viewers have already formed strong bond and opinions about they can and cannot do?; that maybe seeing them being "wrongly" represented or portrayed differently to their expectations messes with their already formed concepts of the characters, their affiliation to evak (og reference). Could gender be a factor) is it more acceptable to see those sort of scene with boy-girl relationship? If yes, then we still have a long way to go because it's shameful (no point intend). Beat myself for this because it is and should be absolutely fine, there was absolutely nothing wrong with that clip! And maybe I just needed a minute because I'm a human with hormones after all... Because, what that clip gave us was a portrait of a healthy progression between two fictional characters love story, their sexual awakening, self-confident, trust, consent and communication between two people in love. Period! And the reason why some might have nothing but negativity to say about it is because any new portray or side to the characters that doesn't fit with how ones view of the characters shatters that image.
And also, why is sex or talking about sex still seen as a taboo? wtFOCKDOWN is giving us relationship of two boys madly in love with each, in a fresh relationship but because of current circumstances they have to refrain from seeing each other. They miss each other. How is it not normal for them to want to do that? How realistic is that? The argument of it being "inappropriate" or "straight up porn" is silly and just wrong because it enhances the assumptions of sex as a taboo rather than being a conversation and topic worth having more.
Skam has always been about educating its viewers on subjects that may be looked upon as taboo (i.e., mental illness, religious belief). Additional, skam is about teaching the viewers about self-discovery, self-acceptance, self-love. Robbe and Sander are discovering ways they can still feel connected to each other regardless of the circumstances. They are of the age of consent and wtFOCKDOWN is constantly showing us that consent is key ( e.g., previous Sobbe clip where Robbe Robbe wasn't comfortable and Sander didn't pressure him, and with the clip of Amber and the girls), in both clips wtFOCKDOWN is highlighting the importance of verbal consent and allowing someone to feel 100% ready to participate in whatever. They are is giving us accurate representation of today's teen relationships. It's accuracy and realism is what might feel strange but we shouldn't hide away from the truth, even though it might feel uncomfortable. Remember the characters are portrayed by young adults who have consented to film this. It is therefore up to us to show them the respect they need and deserve for their craft, their performances which is meant to educate.
Don't let your attachment to the original character spoil your enjoyment of another version that is just as significant, powerful, influential and relevant portray of the same character, only told through different culture, demographic, team and lenses.
Me waiting in front of the mural for Sander and Robbe to show up and reunite.
I’ve always said and I say it again I have so much respect for both Willems… their dedication, chemistry and phenomenal acting ❤️🔥🙌bless their souls.
These two moments together in the trending tab i....their first meeting and the last kiss on the beach....
I know they used Fire on fire but when the song went ...some say we're sinners... and the camera moved to them -
Memories ♡
*Wtfock ending, the idea of Déja Vu replacing Sobbe, the Willems not playing the role of Robbe and Sander anymore*
