The NYRA is an organization that advocates lessening or removing legal restrictions that are imposed on the youth and not adults such as the voting age, curfews etc. Their headquarters is in Washington D.C. but they have offices all over and have over 10,000 members nationwide! It was formed in 1998 by members of the Canadian Youth Rights Association as a way to help unify the youth rights movement all over. They spread their message by campaigning and protesting when necessary.
My interview experience was a pretty good one. The topic I had to ask about was Family and Friends, who has a bigger impact on the youth. I interviewed one of my friends and it actually was a pretty fun experience. I learned a lot about her family and views that I didn't know about! It was a very lighthearted interview and felt more like a conversation than an interview. She responded to all of my questions the way I thought she would. I know her way too well.
I chose to respond to Why 30 is not the new 20. Its main point was that the 20's are not just throw away years, it's the time to really do some personal work on yourself and getting your life together. It's the years you do your exploring that is going to help you in the long run. I picked it because it closely resembles the philosophy I have about my 20's, I call them selfish years and plan on using them to mold myself into the person I want to become in the end. I really agreed with Meg's statement about not just marrying somebody because all your friends are getting married. Marriage is important, it's not just something you settle on a your bronze medal choice for. I also agree that great things come from your weak ties and not from your inner circle. Life begins when you leave your comfort zone, that's where opportunity lies.
This video was about the youth unemployment and not being in school epidemic this country faces and one of the programs aimed at trying to fix it. The intended message of this video is that we have to act in order to fix this unemployment problem so that the youth can have the skills necessary to be successful individuals in their futures! I believe that this is a problem that the youth in general are facing and not just a specific youth subculture.
