"In the future, soccer is in a state of decline as attendances grow smaller while hooliganism is rising. The authorities have decided to allow the players on the pitch to win by any means including fighting and using weapons to attract the fans back. Eight countries of seven players which include England, Germany, Spain, USA, Japan, Brazil, Korea and Italy compete in a league to be the best in the world. There are now only two stadiums in the world, an astro-turf pitch in Japan and a metallic surface in San Francisco. Instead of the plastic ball used today, the ball is now a metal nuclear powered sphere. Soccer Brawl is viewed from the side at an elevated angle showing a small part of the pitch. The joystick is used to move the players while one fire button passes or heads the ball, the other button punches a player or shoots the ball. The length of time the button is held down determines the power of the shot. Hold it down till the power meter fills and a super shot is initiated knocking down anyone who gets in the way." ~MobyGames

Soccer Braw is a futuristic soccer game first released in arcades on February 14, 1992. It was available on the Neo Geo on March 13 the same year and later for the Neo Geo CD on March 31, 1995.

It is a futuristic soccer game that uses either bionic people or cyborgs for the players. It is a two-player game where you pick a home land from one of eight countries. After selecting one of two stadiums, either a dome or an open field, the 5-on-5 soccer match begins with a goalie for each team. You can hold either A for a power shot while on offense, or A for a super shot to disable opponents while on defense. You can perform tackle and slide. Captain wears a kerchief, can't shoot and can make super shot. Power shots rebound from walls except walls behind the goalie.

USA and England: super shot flies on a "figure eight" trajectory.

Italy and Germany: super shot flies on sinewave.

Spain and Brazil: super shot is energy sphere surrounded by eight small balls.

Korea and Japan: super shot flies in a circle behind captain and flies straight.

In Japan, Game Machine listed Soccer Brawl on their April 1, 1992 issue as being the eighth most-successful table arcade unit of the month, outperforming titles such as Hat Trick Hero. In North America, Play Meter listed the game in their April 1994 issue to be the sixty most-popular arcade game at the time. The title received mostly positive reception from both critics and reviewers alike since its initial release in arcades and Neo Geo AES.

A couple of pieces from Monday’s MAME Roulette #163, and one from sub raffle last week:

Cannon Spike, a game featuring SF2 Cammy with guns and rollerblades (rollerblades not pictured).  This is like the 3rd revision of this piece and I hope I haven’t left anything terribly screwed up

Soccer Brawl, a Neo Geo soccer game and the second soccer game out of 4 sports games that night.  This lady only appears on the score screen in a specific revision of the game, which LordBBH had to spend a little time seeking out.  (Kudos to Leilei for finding the exact rom name.)

Also Michelle Heart from Legendary Wings not much else to say about it except it was rushed
