Soccer Lessons || C + E
Ella clearly hadn’t been in her right mind when she’d agreed to go play soccer with Charlie. Soccer was not her thing. Sports were not her thing. In fact, anything involving any form of exercise or coordination in general was not her thing. She was the tall, lanky girl who tripped over her own feet half of the time. But he’d seemed so excited about it and she hadn’t wanted to let him down. Changing into a pair of exercise leggings and a sports bra, she threw her hair up into a ponytail before heading out to the field to meet him.
Ella didn’t even own a soccer ball, so she hadn’t been able to practice a bit on her own first, as she would have liked to, which wasn’t helping her nerves. She’d prefer to at least be able to kick the ball on the first try before legitimately attempting to play in front of her boyfriend. It wasn’t so much that she was worrying about him judging her, but more so that she was scared of embarrassing herself. Ella had never had the greatest self-esteem and the idea of totally screwing up in front of Charlie was horrifying. “Hey babe,” she said with a nervous smile as she walked up to him. They hadn’t even started and she already knew her cheeks were blushing bright red, “Sorry if you were waiting here. It was a longer walk than I expected...” Biting her lip, she thought for a moment before saying, “Remember that time we went ice skating and I tripped and fell and pulled you down with me? This is probably going to be like that.”
