This world is fucked.
It's so fucked that I can't described how fucked it is.
Off the top of my head:
-Global Warming will become irreversible in less than a decade
-Those in power have no interest in stopping it
-Capitalists will still benefit from it, the world ending, they will profit off of the world ending
-Systemic Racism
-The overwhelming influence of religion in politics
-Christian martyr complexes
-Stigma against mental illnesses
-The fact that I've been through two economic recessions and I'm not even old enough to drive
-The fact that we've had a pandemic and our governments did jack shit to prevent it
-The increase in totalitarianism
-CAPITALISM
-THE PATRIARCHY
-The fact that I could legally be killed in certain areas of my country for being queer/trans
-The fact that I am illegal in over 70 countries for the same reasons
Add more if you like, this is just what I got off the top of my head
I’ve seen some people in here and in Twitter say that Beastars fails as a race analogy...
And it kinda does, but when you’re analizing someting form a prespective that it was never meant to be seen, the result just can’t hold itself together.
Tumblr and Twitter are, in general, very US centric so it’s not surprising that people analyze things with a western/US perspective. But Beastars is not a western product so analyzing it as such ends making little sense.
At it’s core Beastars is about the social relations, dynamics and disparities between two radically diferent groups. It explores how in some contexts on group has clear advantages and privileges over the others but at the same time they are discriminated against in others.
In some aspects such diference can be interpreted a racial, like how romance and interspecies love is basciall about interracial couples. But in other aspects it can have a complete diferent meaning: Sebun’s stuggles to climb up a corporate ladder of a carnivore company is a dead ringer about women trying to suceed in men dominated spaces. Other times the diferences can take a more socioeconomical angle, how the Black Market is a completely disrepaired place that the goverment and other political powers have just given up in trying to fix or improve because it has become a hub for all kind of unlawful dealings, which in turn fosters even more the presence of such illegal activities retroalimenting the goverment’s disinterest in that zone.
So of course Beastars doesn’t work as an analogy of racial relations in the US, because it was never meant to be that and any attempt to analize or read it as such will just fall appart.

Seeking The Truth
One of my blogging buddies, Faye, aka The Chicken Grandma sent me this quote: “The beginning of wisdom is found in doubting; by doubting we come to the question, and by seeking we may come upon the truth.” -Pierre Abelard Faye shares great stories from America’s heartland where she and her husband are real farmers in Iowa.
