Sooo given how Sparklink Stars' company is proudly pro generative AI for their development process can we just like ctrl+C ctrl+V these characters into twst and make them our ocs?

Its not like Coly was actually bothered in creating them.

Its not fucking talent, its practice

Recently I got into a heated discussion (centering around AI) with a family member of mine that believes whole heartedly that my genes are what has determined my drawing skills.

While it is true my dad is an artist but hasn't painted or drawn anything in years, I take that comment as an insult. My art in 2025, does not look this way because of "genetics alone". Hell I never really drew until I was in secondary school.

And you want to know why I started? Its because me and a friend of mine wanted to create an anime. Of course it never happened but the fact that I was able to draw was fun, even if I didn't like how it looked now that I'm looking back.

This is my first ever digital art drawings from the year 2017. I was 14 at the time working on some program I got on the microsoft store with a drawing tablet that was half the length and width of a standard laptop screen. On a laptop that only had 30 GBs of storage. If I showed anyone this drawing, would you assume that I was talented? I highly doubt it. "Talent" is a myth in my honest opinion. And my progression in art isn't talent, its practice.

In 2020 I started to draw more after finding tumblr and my art for the time would speak for itself. While I got a new drawing tablet (XP-Pen deco 03) I was still bouncing in between programs like krita and fire alpaca

I went through different style changes in the span of months. I could have stopped altogether but I continued to keep drawing. And the progression shows. Especially with my oc Yuka who has gone through many changes from 2022 to present.

It is not talent it is practice.

If you don't want to practice drawing, then don't complain that you can't draw. How many people have you seen upset that they can't bake when they don't practice. Medibang/Fire Alpaca is free. There are graphics tablets that are under $30. You do not have to resort to AI.

So I have used references in determining how I create character designs for my candyfolk ocs. Then I thought about how genetics would work. Using Mike and Willa as a reference the dots on the side are the colours that would be genetically passed down, some of the colours would be recessive while others would be dominant. I use the different colours of the candy (from the box) as a reference. More under the cut

Its a bit more complicated with Edon and the trio + chewy but it can still be traced.
