Remus Lupin who is a very famous actor, but very private about his personal life suddenly can’t stop bragging about his partner, Regulus Black, a few months into dating.

Remus always drew a very hard line between his actor life, and his private life; it was a bit hard in the beginning, since he was up and coming, everyone wanted to know everything about the new guy taking the film industry by storm: where he came from, where he hung out, who he hung out with, who was bedding him, but Remus was quick to draw his line, talking about how he really wasn’t that much of an interesting guy outside of the roles he played, or how the people in his life didn’t enjoy being in the spotlight and he, and by proxy his fans, needed to respect it.

It obviously angered many people, lots of so called fans lived on parasocial relationships with celebrities after all, one too many videos came out talking about how he was pushing the fans away, that he just pretended to care for them, twitter threads talking about how he most likely had a whole family, or maybe he was on some shady stuff. But Remus didn’t care about the speculations, it didn’t deter him from setting boundaries.

It all changed after he met Regulus Black, and once they started dating. Of course he wasn’t parading Regulus around or letting the paparazzi stick their cameras in his face. Regulus was a doctor: chief surgeon of the ortho department in one of the biggest hospitals in London. He had told Remus he wanted nothing to do with the spotlight, that he was fine with pictures where his face wasn’t showing or if Remus ever wanted to mention he was dating, that was fine, but to not say his name.

He refused to let the hospital he worked at become a hunting ground for paparazzi or have fans swarming the place and making everyone’s jobs that much harder. And Remus understood, he was 100% on board with the boundaries Regulus set regarding the public, and Remus would never do anything without Regulus explicit permission.

But he couldn’t not brag about the gorgeous, smart man he called his own. So when he was invited to a talk show and was, of course, asked if there had been any new changes in his personal life, he couldn’t fight off the absolute beautiful smile forming on his face when the image of black curls, and crystal silver eyes conjured in his mind as he told the host that yes, there had actually been a change in his life and that was that he was no longer a single man.

After that statement, pictures of Regulus started appearing on Remus’ social media. Not of his face of course, that was Remus’ oath to keep, but of his back in Remus’ slightly baggier shirt as he cooked breakfast on a weekend morning, or of a hand with delicate fingers adorned with three silver rings resting atop Remus’ bigger one, of two plates of food and two glasses of wine (when it used to be only one), or the back of a man wearing a brown coat and a grey scarf as he squatted on the grassy floor of a park feeding the birds. A cat also started making regular appearances on his social, big green eyes looking at Remus as the ball of fur, who looked to be around 2 years old meowed maddeningly at him on a video as Remus hummed softly behind the camera, and told the feline that he missed “papa” too.

And so, the months turned to years and Remus never stopped talking about his beloved. People stopped wanting to unmask the mysterious man, and instead enjoyed watching Remus softened features as he talked about his boyfriend, and then, after three years passed since that first talk show, Remus started talking about his husband instead.

Remus was a very private person, that was a thing people now understood and respected of the actor, content on enjoying the little bits and pieces of his personal life he decide to share with the world. But on an awards show, as Remus took center stage to receive an award and deliver his speech, Remus decided (after talking it with his husband first) to give his fans just a little more insight on how good and fulfilling his personal life once.

As Remus started wrapping up his speech, that beautiful smile people now recognized as the husband smile, started coming out in his face.

“And lastly, I want to thank my husband. Who I know is watching this while curled up in his favorite corner of our living room couch, with our cat Leo draped over his legs, and our beautiful four month daughter resting in the safe arms of her papa as she snoozes the night away. My love, you have given me a life that no amount of awards will come close to. You have brought me an immeasurable amount of joy and peace in my, oftentimes, hectic life. You amazed since the first time I laid eyes on you, and you continue to do so every day. Thank you for walking this path with me, for never letting go of my hand, and for allowing me to love you every single day from dusk till dawn. I’m taking this award home to you tonight, I’m leaving it on our shelve and I’ll curl around you as we watch our perfect little girl dream away. And one day, when she’s old enough and she asks about this award, I will tell her it was thanks to encouragement of her papa, of his his reassurances that he wouldn’t mind making sacrifices in his job and life as we traveled across the world so I could film a movie for a year. I will tell her that it was thanks to his immovable support in me that I got to be standing in the stage of one of the biggest award ceremonies in the world, being recognized. And I want to tell you, my darling, that tonight, and every single night for the rest of my life I will recognize you, for the strongest, smartest, bravest, most kind and beautiful man you are. I love you, my star.”

And that night, Remus posted a picture of his family. The side profile of a man holding a small bundle wrapped in a soft yellow, duck printed, baby blanket. The infants face being covered by the angle of the photo, and the full figure of an orange cat curled up in the legs of the man, fast asleep, with the caption.

Regulus Black always kept his hair short. Neatly styled, not a single strand out of place, the complete opposite of the wilderness that was his brother’s mane. A relic of their mother’s old teachings, perhaps, of how a man ought to be. But even as he broke away from the suffocating ideals of his childhood, the order of it stayed with him. It was armor, discipline made visible, hiding all the chaos that lived beneath his skin.

That was until he met Remus Lupin.

Until the night they first shared a bed. He’d woken, heart racing, lungs heaving from a nightmare he couldn’t shake, and found Remus already stirring beside him. Instead of words, Remus shifted closer, pushing his pillow so their heads nearly touched. His hand came up, tentative at first, then certain, long, steady fingers threading through Regulus’ hair in featherlight touches that sent shivers running down his spine. He had never been held like that before, never been soothed so simply.

He buried his face deeper into the pillow, closer to him, lulled by the steady rhythm of Remus’ touch. The next thing he knew, sunlight was spilling across the floorboards, and his reflection in the bathroom mirror showed his hair sticking up in every direction, curls he hadn’t known were there peeking rebelliously from the mess.

From that time on, it became a quiet ritual. Before falling asleep tangled together, skin still warm and humming; after hard days when they collapsed onto the couch in their work clothes; even in quiet afternoons with a book in his hand, Regulus would tilt his head, wordless in his request. Remus always obliged. Sometimes absentmindedly, sometimes with deliberate care, fingers massaging his scalp, twirling strands, coaxing curls week after week that Regulus never thought himself capable of growing, his gels and pomades were long gone now, replaced by styling creams and bottles of products made to nourish natural curls instead of taming them. Remus had brought them home one evening, tucked into a paper bag alongside his own shampoo, because Regulus had offhandedly complained that his hair was “getting out of hand.”

He hadn’t cut it back though. Not when he liked the way Remus’ fingers found their way to the nape of his neck, chasing the end of a curl with lazy reverence. Not when those hands had become part of the way he breathed, grounding him, undoing him. And he could never forget the first time Remus had insisted on doing it for him. Standing behind him in front of the bathroom mirror, sleeves rolled up, his expression soft with focus as he worked the cream into damp strands. Regulus had caught his boyfriend’s reflection there, his lips curved into a shy smile that betrayed the hours he must’ve spent watching videos just to get it right. For him.

He had once thought order was what kept him safe. But somewhere between Remus’ hands in his hair and the quiet sighs that spilled unbidden from his own mouth, Regulus realized he didn’t mind being undone.

Regulus enters their dimly lit flat—the overhead lights are never on, it’s always the lamps—after a long day at work, ready to settle down on the sofa with a good book and a warming up with a nice cup of tea. He’s not really fussed about dinner tonight, though his parents would be appalled at the thought of him having some instant noodles or frozen pizza, but leaving that way of life behind has given him the freedom to have something they would deem inferior and cheap. Granted, it did take some convincing to get him to try such meals, and while he doesn’t love them, he loves the ease and convenience. 

When he heads into the living room, he finds Remus curled up in his armchair, the TV on low and a book resting against his chest. Regulus smiles to himself as he puts a blanket over his sleeping boyfriend and notices the chocolate around his mouth, something he never wouldhave thought to be endearing until now. Everything about this man is perfect to him, from the way he stutters when talking to strangers to his awkward demeanour and clumsiness. He never thought it possible to love someone so wholly. He never thought a love so pure and timeless could exist. He never thought he deserved to be loved back in such a way. But every day he wakes up eternally grateful he met Remus Lupin. 

Tiptoeing to the kitchen, Regulus makes himself a tea and some noodles, returning to find the other man rubbing his face with exhaustion. “Sorry, did I wake you?” 

“No. I mean, yeah, you did, but it’s fine. How was your day, sweetheart?” 

Such a simple question. A question he is asked every day. Yet it never fails to warm his heart. How did he get so lucky to find someone who cares about every mundane detail of his day? What did he do to deserve Remus? 

“Tiring, but good. How was yours, mon chéri?” he responds softly, settling down for another quiet, peaceful evening with the love of his life.

They talk almost every day and they quickly find each attracted towards one another. They also find out they live on towns merely an hour away, and suddenly the wanting of seeing each other doesn’t seem too far away.

Regulus keeps posting on her blog and Remus keeps being the first person to comment on each post, and the flame of need keeps growing and growing within them.

Until one day Remus finds herself on Regulus’ town due to a work conference and she is quick to let the other woman know of it. They make plans to meet after Remus is done with her things. Dinner. Something casual.

Except it is not casual at all when they finally see each other in person for the first time. The fire within them has spread through every single nerve and it itches to escape, to take hold of its twin, to entwine so fiercely that it would be impossible to see which one ends and the other begins.

There’s lingering stares, fleeting touches, flirty words and soft smiles. They talk about everything and nothing. It’s comfortable and it’s exhilarating. Then Remus offers Regulus to take her home. They hold hands the entire drive, and they don’t let go until they get to Regulus’ apartment. But then hands begin to wander, touching skin and mapping everything; the sighs, the moans, the gasps. Clothes are gone one by one, leaving a trail guiding to Regulus’ room.

Remus makes sure to love her thoroughly–she works her tongue and fingers efficiently, learning Regulus’ body and what makes her pretty mouth open in a high-pitched moan, and her legs spread wider. And after that day, Regulus’ posts stop coming in ones. Instead, there is a second figure, or voice, in everything she posts. And @/swooneymooney is still the first blog to comment on every single thing.

Our house is a very, very fine house,

With two cats in the yard,

One insists on curling up in the folds of Regulus’ cashmere blanket like it was bought just for her, while the other follows Remus from room to room like a small, devoted shadow. They rarely argue, except over who gets to pick the dinner music, but it never really matters; they always end up dancing in the kitchen anyway. Regulus’ laughter echoes through the room as he watches Remus try to move with his too-long limbs, clutching the cat to his chest when she nudges his feet, her tiny black paw held gently in his large hand as he twirls her in some odd, affectionate version of ballroom dancing. It hurts Regulus a little, years of perfect lessons, of standing straight and moving just right, but this kind of dancing, with laughter and soft chaos, feels better than anything he was ever taught. There are always half-finished cups of tea left on bookshelves, paint smudges drying on the old wood floors, and a green mug in the shape of a frog that Regulus swears isn’t his, and yet only uses that one to drink his morning tea. (it is, Remus bought it when he saw Regulus looking at it with a lopsided smile on one of their first dates).

Life used to be so hard, Regulus had forgotten what it meant to be looked at softly, to be let in gently, to be loved with the kind of patience that doesn’t flinch when the past knocks at the door. But Remus never locks it. He just opens the door, pulls him in by the wrist, kisses the storm and the seeping cold out of his bones. He never knew he can just put his head on someone's lap and close his eyes for five minutes as the soft afternoon light filters through the window, but Remus' gentle hand carding through his hair so so softly never fails to remind him of what love is.

Now everthing is easy because of you.

Because of sleepy mornings and oversized sweaters. Because of the way Remus reads aloud when Regulus is painting, his glasses slipping down his nose despite his grumbling whenever Regulus teases him about “looking forty at twenty-eight,” his feet snug in lumpy, misshapen socks Hope helped him knit for Christmas. Because Regulus makes Remus his favorite coffee every Sunday morning, even while complaining about the beans. Because the hallway walls are lined with polaroids, and the fridge always has a note that says, "Don’t forget, I love you. P.S. Take your vitamins, love!!" Because Remus will come home with a bouquet of flowers and a shy smile on his face every five days and Regulus will take the wilting ones out of the green vase on their coffee table while his husband lights the fire to warm their living room.

Their house is filled with the softest kind of magic, not the kind you cast, but the kind you choose, again and again, with each morning and every quiet night.
