Request: Spike being more dodgy than usual and everyone thinks he's up to no good. Turns out he's caring for a stray kitten, but didn't want anyone to know he's such a softie. 😅 Thanks Darling! ❤️

A/N: I’m British, so if you’re not, for the purposes of this the snacks you’re buying are crisps, not chips (chips are the food you would eat at the seaside) 💜
You were walking through the local store, looking for snacks. It was your turn to host movie-night in your dorm for the rest of the Scoobies and you were stocking up on all of the unhealthiest foods you could find.
You had decided to buy several large bags of crisps because you suspected Buffy would be inviting Riley. And if Buffy invited Riley, then Willow would invite Tara and Xander would invite Anya. You didn’t mind everyone piling into your tiny dorm room, the more the merrier and all that, it was just that you would be the only one that was going to have to hug a pillow rather than a person.
You were busy thinking about inviting someone just so you didn’t have to feel like a spare part. As you were sifting through your options, lost in your own thoughts, you took a wrong turn into an aisle you didn’t need.
Spike was there, frowning at the rows of cans and he did a double take when he saw you stood staring at him. His eyes widened, as you started to open your mouth to ask what he was doing. Before you could say anything, he dashed out of the store and into the night. You frowned, unsure what that was about. The others had all mentioned he was acting even more shifty than usual at the moment, but this had just confirmed it.
Willow had caught him talking to someone about fighting skills, offering to train them up. When Willow walked over to see who he was talking to, she didn’t see a soul anywhere in the area. Just Spike holding a carton of milk and apparently talking to himself.
Anya had said that she had caught him reading on a park bench, having just about read from the front cover that he was perusing through something that started “A practical guide to care-” when she had asked, he had threatened her, telling her it was none of her business before stalking away.
Buffy noticed that Spike was being more secretive, he had met her at the door to his crypt rather than letting her inside and he told her information she needed to know without so much as a biting comment. She had felt that he was trying to get rid of her for some reason.
Now you had caught him in the pet food aisle. You didn’t want to know what hideous monster he was planning on luring out of the woodwork with cat food. You shrugged, going to the till to pay, bagging up your snacks and walking through the streets. You finally decided you better had take a detour past the graveyard Spike’s crypt was in. Just in case something weird was going on and you needed to go and get Buffy.
While you were cutting through the graveyard you saw the tiniest little ginger tabby. He was a kitten and so small, with the widest green eyes. He made a little mewing noise and your heart melted, you all but threw your bags to the floor to scoop him up.
“Don’t touch the furball” a hard voice warned from the shadows that made you flinch. No matter how long you had lived in Sunnydale, you never got used to the torrent of jump-scares in the area.
“W-what?” You asked, squinting into the darkness.
“Don’t. touch. The. Cat” the voice said again, as Spike stepped out giving you a threatening look.
“Why? He’s so cute” You crouched to stroke the little thing again but he spoke up, making you pull away.
“Diseased!” He said, pointing at you, “That’s right – evil little thing’s probably diseased”
“It’s not diseased, he’s hungry! I’m gonna-” You protested, starting to let the kitten become used to you before moving to pick him up.
“No! You’re not gonna anything, the cat stays here” Spike warned, a hard stare towards you as you continued to pet the little mite. The kitten seemed to enjoy your affection and brushed against you as Spike rolled his eyes. He had been trying to get the stray to stop being so trusting and also bite anyone that wasn’t him. It hadn’t been going to plan. You noticed the way Spike was watching over the kitten, as if he believed you were about to pick it up and throw it as hard as you could into the distance. You were a little insulted, you loved animals, you weren’t going to put the kitten in danger. You then realised why he was being so protective and you couldn’t help smiling at him.
“Is… is it your kitten Spike?”
“No! Gross! Bloody hell!”
Spike looked at you for a while and you looked at him. Spike moved to sit on the floor and you joined him. He eventually relented, saying the stray had wondered into his crypt all hungry and neglected. Spike had decided to help the little thing out. You were surprised at this. Not only at his apparent care, but his little smile when he spoke about the cat.
“What’s his name?” You asked, now sat opposite spike, taking it in turns to stroke the kitten when he walked over to either one of you.
“What? Nasty, evil creatures of the night don’t sodding name kittens!” Spike said suddenly, realising how this must look.
“Is it Fluffy?” You ask with a teasing smile, “Gingersnap?” he growled at this suggestion, “Sweetheart?” you ask finally. His vamp face flashed a warning at you, but you can’t help smiling.
“Bloody give over, there’s no name!” he warned as you grinned, stroking the kitten.
“Well, this has been fun, but I better go! I can’t wait to tell the others!” You smiled mischievously, getting up from where you had been sat. You had a plan.
“You bloody well won’t!” he said, slowly standing up, his most threatening stare trained on you.
“But… his little face!” You melted, scooping the kitten up and stroking him again. You didn’t even want to part with the little ginger ball of fluff and you turned his face to spike to prove his little face was too much to just leave unmentioned to the others. Spike, however, already knew of the hold that evil little face could have over someone.
“What do you want?” He asked, he was planning on buying your silence. Your mischievous grin widened and he knew he had just walked into a trap. You pretended to think it over for a moment, stroking your chin theatrically as you rocked the little kitten with your other hand.
“I want visitation on the kitten… and he needs a name” You decide and Spike thought about it for a moment, agreeing.
“Deal” He shrugged, reaching for the ginger cat, that was easier than he thought.
“Not done” you said with a smile as he rolled his eyes, taking the kitten back off you and holding him to his chest protectively, “I want you to come to movie night”
“No sodding way”
“Then, everyone’s gonna hear the tiny tale of Mittens, Spike’s very cute kitten” You teased, making him roll his eyes again.
“Do I have to actually watch the movie?” he checked, testing your terms.
“Yes”
“Do I get snacks?” He squinted at you.
“Yeah, that’s only fair” You decided, you had bought enough for a whole movie theatre anyway, “And… I want you to hold me while the movie’s on and pretend you’re enjoying it”
“Wh- absolutely bloody not! I’d rather face the-” You raised your eyebrows, you knew he wouldn’t rather face the others teasing him. With that, he relented, agreeing to your terms.
You scratched behind the kittens ears, grinning at Spike, before skipping away with your shopping and calling over your shoulder what time you expected him at your dorm. Hey, he was going to be more comfortable than a pillow.
