Literally nothing happens. Zander is just happy for once in his goddamn life.

It was getting colder out, but for once Zander didn’t dread it.

He’d felt the familiar aches and pains that got worse from the cold when he’d woken up, but the right painkillers had eased them enough that he wasn’t bothered too much anymore. He wouldn’t have to spend the next few months in a tiny, freezing cold cell, desperately trying to keep warm beneath a thin blanket. He wouldn’t have to fear being chained up during a snowstorm, or worry about frostbite from being sent outside barefoot. He had a warm, safe home again, and those wouldn’t have to be concerns to him anymore.

He had curled up on the couch, knees pulled up to his chest, he still hadn’t broken the habit of trying to take up as little space as possible. He’d get there eventually, he hoped. The house was quiet that day, both of his moms were at work so he had the place to himself. He had a blanket wrapped around himself, one of his favorites that he had missed a lot when he was away. He’d had it for years, it had always been comforting to him, even more so now.

He had made himself hot chocolate before he’d sat down in front of the TV, using a big mug he’d gotten around halloween with bats around it. He couldn’t make it as good as his mom could but it was still satisfying, he was still happy with it. It didn’t take him long to finish it though, and he’d sat the empty mug on the table beside the couch, telling himself he’d wash it later. He got comfortable, pulling the blanket tighter around himself, and eventually the inevitable sleepiness set in, he found it harder and harder to stay awake.

When his mom got home an hour or so later, she found him fast asleep, curled up on the couch. He seemed comfortable, and he always needed the rest, so he just brushed his hair off his face for him and let him sleep.
