"Why'd you invite me over?"
Eddie's high enough that the warm, stale air in Steve's room is starting to feel good against his skin. He wants to take his jacket off to feel more of it, but is stuck watching Steve formulate an answer to his question. It takes a long time.
"Bored, I guess."
"Fair enough."
His whole body feels like it's rotating in a slow circle, but he releases his breath and finds he hasn't moved at all. He shakes his head, so slow so he doesn't get dizzy. Steve laughs and it happens in slow motion.
"I'm always bored," Steve says. His hand is limp in his lap and Eddie has the urge to hold it, pinch each finger to see which will get a reaction. He doesn't notice he's leaned in until Steve meets his eyes and they're only a matter of inches apart.
"Why's that?" Eddie asks. But Steve doesn't answer and Eddie slowly, slowly leans in. Barely grazes their lips before his brain catches up.
He doesn't have time to lean away. Steve makes a low sound, a groan so quiet that Eddie wouldn't hear it if he wasn't so close. He kisses him again, and Steve's hand twitches in his lap, coming back to life.

★ - sad headcanon
There are sooo many sad things about the boy, I struggled to pick something original. Maybe this: "Steve Harrington has bad parents" is such a common tag, but his mom is actually nice. Steve loves her, wishes they were closer, and so does she, but she feels powerless under the influence of Steve's father. They used to be very close when Steve was a child, but drifted apart as his mom kept taking her husband's side in arguments, not wishing to anger him.
☆ - happy headcanon
Steve melts under any kind of praise. The kids tell him the homemade pizza he made was delicious, and wolf it down, as he smiles about it for at least five minutes afterwards. Robin hugs him after he helps her plan a date with Vickie, and tells him he's the best friend ever, and he feels warm and gooey all over. Eddie… Eddie looks at him, just hanging out in his trailer, in a ketchup-stained t-shirt and hair that hasn't seen product today because Eddie doesn't have any, and tells him he's so fucking pretty. And Steve has to press his face into a pillow because it feels like it's going to explode from grinning.
♡ - romantic headcanon
Steve IS a fucking romantic. Ridiculously so. Eddie keeps trying to tell him he doesn't have to try so hard, he's not a girl, dammit, he really doesn't need to be wined&dined and is just happy to be around Steve, but Steve is determined. He wants to do this whole dating Eddie thing right. He makes candlelit dinners, and takes him to movies so he can hold his hand in the dark, and is so fucking lovely and gentle the first time they have sex Eddie almost cries.

Steve likes silly comedy movies, sunrises, ice-cream despite having way too many free samples working at Scoops, Robin's singing along to her favorite songs, and watching Eddie play guitar for him.
Steve dislikes sleeping in complete darkness, generally being alone, headaches, worrying when someone in the Party isn't responding on the radio, and the word 'bullshit'.

a) I love that the Daredevil fandom has been kept healthy with several events over the years: shout out to @daredevilexchange for all the work they've done!
b) My mattfoggy buddies are all so sweet and supportive; I know I can always count on someone to leave a comment on my fics even if they're occasionally a bit niche!
c) I'm currently loving the surge in podficcing! We've not only got longtime veterans doing podfics for other people's work, but several of us have dipped our toes into the waters and have begun to podfic our own work. Not only a neat part of fandom but a step toward some more enjoyable reading for our friends who primarily use screen readers.
2. a headcanon you weren't sure about at first but have come to like!
I think at first I wasn't super big on the whole "Mike is in love with Foggy and obnoxious about it" thing, but as anyone familiar with my fics knows I've since come to embrace it.
8. you hope more people will come to appreciate ___ (a ship, a trope, an episode, etc)
Honestly I'd just like people to write more fics and draw more art directly inspired by comics storylines, especially some of the older stuff! That's what I'm hoping to get people to do with my upcoming DD comics bingo event. :D
11. if you're a writer or artist, what fic or piece of art are you proud of making?
At the moment I'm really proud of Hearsay, which is a comics volume 1 wip. I just think it's very tightly written.

@mutuallyprime is as lovely and supportive as it gets! You can count on her to boost you up if you need it 🥺 and she's written some truly great fics! The DD 2003!Matt/Milla fic is never leaving my brain.

Already answered this one with Matt and Foggy's friendship, but I suppose I also love their frequent divorces. 😌 Great source of drama, I think we can all agree about that.

lol sorry this is a boring answer but at the moment... none! I have in the past however been influenced to watch things, including Hannibal (loved it), Interview with the Vampire (loved it), and BBC Merlin (hated it lmao).

I've made so many friends!! It's lovely to wake up in the morning and be able to go and say hi and chat about this thing we're all obsessed with. Far less lonely. :D
25. a piece of advice for taking care of yourself in fandom spaces
literally don't listen to anybody telling you you're doing fandom wrong because you do/don't do x, y, or z. it's your life and anybody espousing these opinions has a very narrow and limited view of other people's interiority. get the hell out of there if you see a post like this. you deserve better.

For some reason I felt the need to draw up a whole comic about a future jam bud session, so here you go!
The organics on Earth are the first ones they've met with powers like the gems. Of course, being organic, it's not as efficient for them. They have to pair off in soulmate bonds, and most of the powers they get from it are little ones - being able to move small objects slowly with your mind, nightvision, an incredible sense of smell. Nothing big. Nothing important.
Organics aren't good at that kind of thing.
Connie always wanted superpowers, even a small one, but she just can’t seem to meet her soulmate. She walks around the Diamonds' palace and thinks that she would have a better chance on Earth, but this is where she lives. Where she's always lived.

There’s a girl in the palace, Sapphire and Pearl whisper it to him. Your soulmate is here, they say. You’re human enough for a soulmate, and they keep her close to make you stronger.
It's a little rebellion, and one Steven is grateful for. He wanders the halls and tries to find her. When gems tell him to go somewhere, he goes the other way, in hopes that the hidden girl will be somewhere else.
No matter who he asks, no matter how he searches, he can’t find her. He hears gems in the hallway whisper that he’s crazy, loud enough for him to hear.
It’s on purpose. They want him to stop looking.
He won’t.

One of these days Peridot is going to crack and disobey orders. She can't believe she's thinking about it now - she never used to think about it, and now she can't think of anything else.
Oh, years ago it was no problem. The Diamonds brought her two unconscious humans, and on their orders, she put a chip in each of their wet, mushy brains. Memory deletion isn't hard, as long as you do it fast.
Her assignment is to delete the memories of their meetings, if they happen to bump into each other. If they remember, Yellow explains, they’ll start using their powers. Strong powers. Powers stronger still when they fuse. If they ever remember, their powers could destroy the whole empire. So they cannot.
But every time they meet again, they’re so happy they cry. It’s a gross, weak, human display.
And every time it gets harder and harder to hit the button. She watches them run into each other in the hallway, watches them laugh and talk and look happier than they ever do apart.
No one’s happy here, not ever, but they are whenever they meet. They’re the only ones that ever smile, aside from the Diamonds. Would it be so bad if the empire was destroyed? Could everyone smile like that, if given the chance?
10. What are some facts readers may not know about your Brandishing the Star series?
(Context for those not familiar with my AO3 page) So, Brandishing the Star is like... where I throw all my “missing scene” stories that I wrote for SU, stuff that- when it was written- was intended to sorta fill between the gaps of canon. Any blatantly non canon-compliant fics sorta sit on their own, ahah.
Essentially, it’s my personal envisioning of what’s happening between the lines for all these characters. Conversations I’d have loved to have seen, quiet moments after a climax, delving into certain characters’ headspaces...
Ahah, so with that said... one fact I can tell is that there’s two stories in this series that were once written to be canon-compliant and now are not. Bi the Way and Errands have alas been swiftly jossed by SUF, ahah. In one, I had Steven and Connie already dating post the movie, and in the other, I had Steven meeting Jasper in the woods for “fight club” training regularly. The stubborn “canon-compliant purist” in me almost wanted to remove these, but then... in the end, I figure they’re still a worthwhile piece of writing, even if it can’t adhere to what’s seen on screen. They were still intended to fit in when they were written, so... in the end I’ve sorta just shrugged and made a note that they’re non compliant in the series description.
Also, whenever I add a new story to this series I organize it in chronological order! I had to fudge a little bit with Second Skin, though- since it takes place all through SUF and not at a singular point.
