No no but each episode in TADC had a horror element specifically targeted towards what the central character was dealing with. And all of those elements have to do with losing autonomy.
In ep 2 it was about losing autonomy over your purpose. In ep 3 it was about losing autonomy of your memories (Kinger). In ep 4, your autonomy of your emotions (Gangle). And not in ep 5 with Jax, your autonomy over your body.
Like even with these silly slice of life bits they still remind you where all of this is heading. Now's a great time to read I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream.
💕How did they both realize “oh wait, this is actually love”?
- When they realized they couldn't go day to day without one another anymore; not just with their business but in life too. They couldn't function without the other
🎶What’s their song - the one that makes them both tear up / grin like idiots?
- Old Man by Neil Young
🌸What nickname do they have for each other that would mortify them if others heard?
- Holland calls Jackson 'Jackie' when he's being cheeky, Jackson is not a fan but he let's it slide cause he says it with a sly, adorable smile
😘Who kisses the other first thing in the morning, morning breath & all?
- Holland kisses Jackson with morning & coffee breath every day at breakfast
I just wanted to say I really like the way you write Gade in your fic 🥹 I havent rly read many Fade fics but you've kinda planted a seed of interest inside of me rn (and she's not even a main character in the fic lol), and hopefully one day I get to read one from u heh.
Have u ever thought of writing a Fade-centric fic/smth like that? Or do you have any other insights on Fade's feelings from the sagebean fic you could share?
I'm honored you like my characterization of her so much! :D Honestly I can't say I've considered writing anything Fade-centric, long fics or otherwise, but that's mostly because I already have so many Viper/sagebean ideas that the other agents simply can't occupy my mind that often. If I came up with a good idea for a fic I'd totally be down to write one though—Fade’s a fun character and one of my favorites, hence why she features so frequently in my fics.
As for insights in relation to my current fic... Depending on how many of my replies you've read in the comments on my fic, this might be known information already, but I'll try my best anyway :)
Fade is...quite conflicted as of the latest chapter. Most of the agents are, of course, but there's extra layers to it when it comes to Fade. She's worried about Sage, devastated by the possibility of her death, but she's also extremely hurt. Sage didn't just lie by omission to Fade like she did with the rest of the Procotol; she went out of her way to lie directly to Fade’s face several times.
The way Fade sees it, she already caught on to the fact that things were amiss with Sage far later than she should've—her powers are empathic, so if not the physical pain, she should've at least noticed the emotional pain that Sage was in a long time ago...but she didn't. And then, when she finally did figure out that something wasn't right, Sage deceived her directly and intentionally, and specifically toyed with her emotions to do so. Fade trusted her, hell, Fade probably even felt somewhat privileged and trusted herself because she thought Sage was telling her a truth that no one (except Viper) was privy to. But in the end, it was just another lie, one that Sage put effort into maintaining. And to make matters worse, Viper—someone who Fade openly admires and respects more than many agents—also knew the entire truth and helped Sage hide it from her.
You can't blame her for feeling betrayed. But even still, Fade is caught in this complex spot between a rock and a hard place just like all of the agents (save Viper) are. It would be simpler if Sage were hiding something like cancer, but she isn't. This is bigger than that. It's "I've been killing myself for this cause, for all of you, and I didn't think that was worth mentioning." It's "I've been killing myself for 3 years right before your eyes, and you didn't notice."
So now everyone has to answer the same questions: is it worth it to stay angry? Is it worth it to hold a grudge when Sage is fading fast? Is it really even Sage’s fault when they were the ones who didn't realize for years? Should Sage have even needed to tell them? The last chapter makes it pretty clear how most agents decided to answer those questions, but as I'm sure will become more apparent as the fic goes on, every agent is reacting differently. For Fade, it's simply even more difficult because of the extra layer of both hurt and guilt.
I am struck with an urge to do a "W1%" run of Ultrakill. Constant dualwield, slight damage reduction, skip Claire de Lune/Soliel.
Oh my god I'd LOVE to see that so much if you feel like giving me a peek.
BUT ALSO okay I've been thinking this ask over a lot actually. Because it made me think of what would a W1 mod even be like?
Now obviously I have no coding knowledge, but if I were to make it, I suppose it'd be a co-op nightmare experience where the controls are separated in two. The way I'd do it is with constant duel wield and constant access to both knuckleblaster and feedbacker.
Player 1 - Movement (all or most of it at least), 1 gun arm, 1 punching arm
Player 2- Camera view, 1 gun arm, 1 punching arm
Would this be fun? Uh... I don't know. Is this accurate to how W1 moves? Not really, but it's how I'd translate it. Sounds like an annoying challenge to do with friends hehe hoho
