Last Friday was a huge release day, and we found ourselves gasping for air trying to keep up with all the splendid EPs, singles, and albums that had emerged out of the sonic woodwork. Though we’re still working on catching up to everything, there’s one album we can’t put off extolling for any longer. UK quartet Softer Still has put out their debut full length Nuances, cementing their brand of polished yet vulnerable, nostalgic and intoxicating dream pop with the 10 track release. We’re loving the darkwavey, post-punky, and new wavey vibes on dreamy luscious Red Sun, one of many songs we’ve fallen for from Nuances. It’s a must for fans of Wild Nothing, suffused with a pinch of Echo and the Bunnymen. If they ever make a proper Donnie Darko sequel, I’d love to hear this song on the soundtrack.
