Hello! I'm a relatively new fanfic writer and I was wondering if you had any advice! Thank you so much love have a great day
Aww thank you for reaching out to me! There are much better writers out there haha. 💛 this means a lot, now I’m excited haha.
So I think that my most important advice is: write for you before anyone else.
Having this in mind helps a lot when you see that maybe you are not getting too much notes or the ones you were hoping to have. It takes time, but what I’m trying to say is that, it doesn’t matter what people might or might not say/react/think about your work, it matters how much you enjoyed working on it, how much effort you put into it and how it made you feel.
Being less emotional about it, lol, this are my recommendations:
Use tags... but the right tags: this helps you and your blog to be seen on this big ass community and so it would help you get the visibility you need to get in to business. Just try not to put unnecessary/out of context ones. Use the ones you are talking about on your work.
Practice, practice, practice: no one is born being the best at anything, so practicing is going to be your best friend, you can do it by choosing random topics and setting goals to what you want to say about it and how, and write. Also being open to requests is great, you get to have an idea of what most people enjoy, and you get to put your talent to work.
Don’t be afraid to make mutuals! Reaching out to other blogs helps so much, they can help with feedback, advise, promote your work, give some encouragement and it’s always nice to have a group of people who share your taste.
Understand that it takes time, and you need time too: it’s ok to have a break, and it’s ok if the first fics you write are not so good. Like I said, practice is your bff and we all need it. Sometimes even taking a break can boost your creativity or allow you to be relaxed and help your ideas flow better.
Don’t forget to edit!!: this is really important, you might have to write, delete, re write, delete again and keep it like that for at least three times. It’s ok, make sure you re-read your work to make sure it makes sense, there are not typos (or at least, the minimum), and that the final version makes you happy.
You are not selfish if you are not comfortable with certain requests, you are free to choose, it’s your writing.
This one I guess is more optional, but I like to keep my work in a specific place, that is my “master list”. It helps people who are interested in your work to see the menu (lol) and well, have a general look of your work. It also makes it more organized.
Hope this works, thanks again, I wish you the best 💛 and I’m here if you need anything.
