All’undicesima Mostra Internazionale di Architettura della Biennale di Venezia, nel 2008, Patrick Schumacher, architetto tedesco, presenta il Parametricism Manifesto: descrive la progettazione parametrica come l’avanguardia “egemonica” del primo decennio del XXI secolo. Il Parametricismo é uno stile e “un programma di ricerca, basato su di un paradigma parametrico”.
Attraverso l’utilizzo di sistemi computazionali, si riescono a risolvere problemi complessi della progettazione, trovando inoltre grande libertà creativa e un numero infinito di varianti dello stesso modello.
In maniera molto semplice, il progettista non deve far altro che inserire i parametri input all’interno dei vari software di calcolo: in questo senso, trova applicazione il BIM (Building Information Model), definito come rappresentazione digitali di caratteristiche fisiche e funzionali di un oggetto. La tecnologia BIM permette di studiare e modellare un edificio in più dimensioni, prevedendo la programmazione della realizzazione, valutazione dei costi e valutazione della sostenibilità ambientale.
