Comparing Software - Adobe Bridge vs Lightroom
Throughout our imaging class so far, we have had the opportunity to experiment with both Adobe Bridge and Lightroom. Being completely new to both, I had to build up my confidence using them. For my final images, I opted for Lightroom because I feel more confident using it.
IMPORT: When it comes to importing on both of the softwares, you have the ability to select your device and choose the exact images you want. Whenever I insert my USB or SD card, I select to import photos and select my device then all of the images on my device appear. The selection process is quick and efficient on both of the softwares.
EDIT: Personally, I prefer this stage on Adobe Bridge because I like the review mode available. It gives you a carousel of your images which is the best way to view them, and whilst going through them, you can review them using the star rating system whereby you can give 1-5 stars on your images. This star rating is also available on Lightroom however the carousel isn’t. Whilst looking through your images on the two softwares, you can view the metadata.
OPTIMISE: Both optimization stages are similar however I would tend to opt for Lightroom because I find it easier to navigate. On Bridge, the histogram is on display as soon as you enter the optimizing stage but on Lightroom, you need to go into the settings to click on display. On Bridge, I like that you can turn on the warning clippings which alerts you when editing images, ie parts of the image will go red when it is overexposed. Both softwares allows you to crop the photos, adjust tonal and colour, sharpen images and reduce noise. You can also have a before and after viewing of your image.
EXPORT: I find it easier to export my images in Lightroom because I can choose exactly where I want to save my images but with Bridge, it sometimes saves in a different location. Both softwares allows you to export a few files at a time and this speeds up the process. When saving, you can change the file type from JPEG to raw etc.
Overall, I prefer Lightroom. I just find it easier to work and loads quicker than Bridge.
