Your Dungeons & Drag Queens watchalong prompted me to start watching it, too, and it's SO charming. Forgot how much I missed watching Bob do stuff. Thanks!
omg yay!! I just finished the 3rd ep last night, it's really exceeded my expectations on all accounts and it's so charming for sure. ;_; RPDR's ballooned with so much additional content and spinoffs over the years that I've skipped most of it, but this was such a refreshing way to see some faves in a new context. Like when they get the hang of what the dice numbers mean and get excited for a nat 20! But also like when Brennan mentioned that he intentionally picked famous dancer names for some of the NPCs after Juju named her character Twyla, and they get into some discussion on the personal thought processes behind the queens' character creation decisions in the 1st Adventuring Party ep. :3 Glad you've been enjoying the series!
I hope u have fun with kk3!! Kk3 is like. Well I guess that's a movie they made and filmed and released to audiences in the 80s as a sequel to the karate kid. And because there's something wrong with me. It's my favorite one <3
the minute I saw that 15% rottentomatoes rating I knew to adjust my expectations accordingly alskdjflkgj it'll be ok (even if the movie legit sucks so bad, I'll still have fun seeing the evil old man yaoi power couple when they were less old)
a pretty peak karate kid 2 moment for me was when chozen is threatening daniel and kumiko the rest time and just mid way through rips off his shirt like its just so good SO peak chozen. and of course the everything with daniel and miyagi's relationship -- trying to comfort him after his father's death, spending his entire college fund just to be there with him through it ... wah!!
omg yes!! i was going to liveblog the shirt moment but then got swept away by the subsequent events. that's so him to just rip his shirt off and flex his tit before leaving. for no reason. PEAK chozen kk2 moment. i'm glad his older self in ck is like wiser and mellower and whatever, but most importantly, he's so fucking funny and i'm excited to see more of him in s5 (prob after i watch kk3 first)
also ;_; daniel and miyagi!! i don't think i'll ever be over that airport scene, and the everything. he cares SO much
unsure if you're aware of this but Oda is actually friends with several drag queens in real life! Ivankov is based on a drag queen friend of Oda's, who actually voiced them for a while before getting arrested for bullshit "decency" concerns. but yeah Oda is not totally oblivious to queer stuff and gender things is the main point
oh i am (i've read the SBS where oda mentioned basing iva on someone he met via mayumi tanaka's acting troupe a few hundred chapters ago) but ty for letting me know just in case! mostly my posts referencing one piece and gender are riffing off conversations i've been having with mutuals or in a dialogue with posts they've made/messages we've exchanged before, or just for my own amusement, so i tend not to elaborate on any background reading i've done other than whatever's on my mind at the moment of posting, if that makes sense?
i'm also easily entertained by the hints of inadvertently galaxy brain implications re: gender that can arise from plot subtext beyond his textual progressive moments (like how he draws yamato with enormous breasts, for example, yet takes care to have kaido correctly gender him). tbh were it not for also-queer mutuals who are much further along in one piece than i am, i wouldn't have given the manga as much of a chance b/c of the way oda draws women. but it's also the juxtaposition between his hyper-exaggerated (often objectifying-looking) art style vs the often progressive content of his writing when it comes to emphasizing autonomy and freedom that keeps me coming back
Overall this episode we’re so back
WE ARE SO BACK OLICHARLES NATION
Thank you so much for blogging about the old gay men. I’ve been going crazy watching omitb with my very straight family and I’m so glad someone else can see the old man gay love story unfolding on their screen lmao
🥺 of course! i, in turn, am glad that someone else enjoys the product of me observing and relaying basically every single omitb thought that pops into my head :3 ty ty for letting me know
Counterpoint: In season 1 Jan said “Brazzos was our safeword.” Who knows what kind of freak Charles already is, and on a first date no less
LAKSDFJ okay that + his general repression issues + lightly domming oliver's wrist in the elevator does support charles getting more than a little freaky in the bedroom now that you mention it
