Sometimes I wonder if soulmates are real, but today I had an Experience. I work as a janitor in a supermarket. Unfortunately, I had found a bumblebee that had gotten well inside the store and died by the time I found it, doing my sweeping around the store in the morning. I wished I could give it a proper burial, but I didn't have the time or resources, so I at least made sure to sweep it up properly where I could send it off myself.

I was pretty sure that was all there was to it.

On my final sweep at night, I noticed clumps of dirt in the grocery aisles. I turned the corner to find a little green plant, uprooted, likely from the floral department. I had to sweep this up, too. By the end of it, I realized I had put this plant in the same trash bag as the bee.

It doesn't matter to either of them, they're both dead. But, among the dust and garbage that means nothing to them, they are a matched set, flora and insect.

A love story: a farmer is planting his seeds. The day is young and beautiful, his dog is with him playfully running around the field. The farmer, joyous but distracted by Fido, accidentally drops 2 seeds in the same hole without noticing. Many months later, the crop is almost, but not quite, ready for harvest. As the days went on in that farm months ago, the seeds grew connected in that one hole, and their love accelerated their growth. They were soilmates.
