One of the biggest tasks facing Wildlife Trusts around the world is not only protecting wild animals from poachers, but what happens to the children of those animals who were killed. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is one organization doing amazing work with orphaned wild animals and they frequently document their stories, like this one here about Sokotei.

After his mother succumbed to a prolonged illness, Sokotei was left mourning over her lifeless body. When we tried to intervene and rescue the five-month-old, he bolted into the rainy darkness, leading to a long chase through the wilderness. Two years on, Sokotei has blossomed into a confident and cheerful bull. In July, he took his next step towards a life in the wild when he graduated from the #DSWT Nursery to our Ithumba Reintegration Unit.
