Mlima’s Tale
Ivory poaching isn’t just about killing elephants; it’s about removing an ecological keystone from the environment. Chelsea Clinton explains just how crucial elephants are to their surroundings, and the ways in which their loss could be catastrophic for us all.
Mlima’s Tale
The Wildlife Conservation Society’s John F. Calvelli joined Public Forum to discuss THE COST OF IVORY with Chelsea Clinton, Lynn Nottage, and Oskar Eustis -- and he started by telling us about New York’s particular history (and continued legacy) in the ivory trade.

Mlima’s Tale
A brand new short piece of speculative fiction, published by the fine folks at Lightspeed Magazine - one that tells the story of a woman, of a birth, and of elephants. We won’t give anything more away... but suffice it to say, this one feels like a neat companion to the ghost story that Lynn has put onstage.
In the Kenyan bush, a small-time ivory dealer fights to stay on top while forces mobilize to destroy his trade. When he turns to his younger cousin, a conflicted wildlife ranger who hasn’t been paid in months, they both see a possible lifeline.
Mlima’s Tale
We’re so intrigued to catch this new documentary from Jon Kasbe, showing the ivory trafficking business from the perspective of the poachers. Kasbe captured over 700 hours of footage, over three years, and the result looks incredible. It’s premiering at Tribeca Film Festival in April 2018 and we’ll be there.
Star-hunting technology designed to pick out galaxies in the night sky is being repurposed to spot poachers who are threatening the world’s most endangered animals.
Mlima’s Tale
The poetry of this is just too good: technology developed to explore the stars, repurposed to protect our own backyard. Here’s hoping it helps in the fight to protect our endangered species!

Mlima’s Tale
Warning: this script is probably NSFW and definitely very Deadpool, if you know what we mean. But we can’t help but share, seeing as most of this ‘script’ from Donald Glover’s cancelled/not-happening Deadpool animated series sees Deadpool in single conversation with one of the last three remaining white rhinos. There’s lots of talk of ivory trafficking and Bitcoin! And while it maybe doesn’t end on the best note... that’s Deadpool, we guess.
Mlima’s Tale
96 elephants are killed every day in Africa. Take a second to think about that statistic.
And then, when you’re done, check out the work being done by the Wildlife Conservancy Society - especially their 96 Elephants project, which aims to put an end to poaching and trafficking of ivory.
