I need to ramble about this scene that never sat right with me. It was the moment when after the hoenn grand festival, when Drew won from May, and everyone started chanting May's name instead. It felt done so just that May wouldn't be bitter about her loss, which I'm sure she wouldn't have been at all. It felt like indirect bullying.. like, Drew won this big ass fight, and they only chant MAY'S name? Listen, this is how I'd write it.
May and Drew's fight goes as it originally would've went. Drew wins, and May loses. But instead of everyone chanting May's name, the crowd chant for both May and Drew, which would feel a lot more rewarding since they both battled like top coordinators, right? But that's not where it ends. To make May truly feel like she battled as well as she did, I would make Drew invite her to get up after May bends down to tend to her pokemon, they shake hands and congratulate eachother. You feel me?? They both get treated equally, and not one for the sake of being a TOTAL main character (which May kind of is, I know, but it feels kind of mary sue to make it all about her, while Drew himself won, you know?), and so that May feels fulfilled after losing but still getting subtle praise from Drew. I mean come on, I just have to add in some contestshipping. It's what I do! The original big fight between these two as dismissed so fast while we've totally gotten a cute moment between the two just like in the kanto festival.
