IN EPISODE 43 WE FOUND OUT:

The entire point of making the ignises was to save humanity not from some imminent threat, but from threats humanity has always faced (pretty much anything that leads to death, including natural causes).

He kidnapped and forced the Lost Babies to duel because be believed observing that would be the best way for the ignises to understand humans.

When the incident was exposed, Kogami... wasn’t put in a coma right away? SOL covered up the incident because of the potential profit they could make off the ignises. Kogami worked with SOL for three years, and during that time the ignises created the Cyberse. 

Kogami discovered how dangerous they were after running billions (?!) of simulations, all of which ended in the same conclusion: the extinction of humanity.

But I actually really love the reasoning behind why this could, hypothetically, happen. He foresaw the ignises surpassing humans, which would leave humans feeling threatened/vulnerable; they would declare AIs to be their enemies, and the ignises would react by doing the same. So the ignises do pose a legitimate threat but it’s one that stems from humanity.

Kogami wanted to destroy the ignises, so he told SOL about it. SOL didn’t give a fuck because apparently money > humanity, so they infected Kogami with a virus and shipped his ass home.

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY! RYOKEN WAS BOTH YUSAKU’S SPECIAL PERSON AND THE WHISTLEBLOWER WHO OUTED HIS DAD.

And Yusaku 500% doesn’t want to fight him anymore, but Ryoken has a death wish because everyone he loves is dead. And it makes sense, they sacrificed their lives for this cause of course he isn’t going to back down from it.

In conclusion: goddamn, what an episode.

Speculation on SOL Technology’s Chess Piece Guys

And by ‘speculation’ I mean ‘random guesses at plot twists’.

At least one of the chess pieces uses a male voice and everyone assumes they’re male, but they aren’t.

Two of the chess pieces are actually the same person, using a voice changer to sound like two different people.

At least one is not who the other chess pieces think they are.

At least one is actually an AI. They need to find the Cyverse because they need its data material to live.

At least one is in league with the Knights of Hanoi. When SOL finds the location of the Cyverse they’ll leak it to the rest of the Knights. (If this is Bishop, that would explain why he didn’t care about the security risk of the scan in episode 1.)

At some point in the series, one will be compromised and secretly replaced by one of the Knights. Because the problem with identity concealing code-names and giant chess piece avatars is that no one knows if you’ve been kidnapped and replaced by Specter using a voice changer.

Ooooh snap, Akira told ‘Go’ about the Lost Incident. And he quickjly figures out that Soulburner was also a victim.

And since he has an ignis with him, IT’S GO TIME (pun absolutely intended)

Flashback to Akira telling Go about The Lost Incident

“The Lost Incident derailed Playmaker’s life. For Playmaker, a duel means the same as living. Winning duels verifies his sense of self, and losing means losing yourself. His determination and persistence to win... I believe this is the secret to Playmaker’s power.”

Goddamn, and Go still wants to beat him after learning all that?

Apparently Go doesn’t “know” what The Lost Incident Victims had to endure? Does he mean that symbolically (as in, he can’t imagine it/put himself in their shoes) or did Akira not fill him in on the details?

The show is giving us a reminder that lost baby or not, Go’s childhood was also pretty shitty

He pops the hell off on Soulburner because of his Playmaker-complex

But Soulburner’s got some words in him, too:

“I don’t think you’re Playmaker’s stepping-stone, but right now, you’re SOL Technologies’s lapdog. Actually, a pitiful loser dog who complains to strangers. [...] ‘Go Onizuka’! Yusaku was able to revive Ai. Good :`)

Kusanagi’s back from the institution/hospital, and he’s ready to fight with his bare hands to revive Jin

Yusaku promises to bring that bitch BACK to LIFE

The Element Theory has been officially confirmed by Haru and his group. Each ignis represents an attribute. They straight-up call Ai the “DARK ignis”.

AND THEIR BOSS NOT ONLY REFUSES TO RETURN BOWMAN (AND HARU’S?) REAL MEMORIES, BUT HE RESETS BOWMAN’S MEMORIES AGAIN. THE FUCK. WHY DOES HE WANT TO KEEP MY GOOD BOY(TM) IGNORANT.

Ai is fucking around with Roboppy AND Linkuriboh. Goddamn, what a player.

“Why did you lock me up again?” did Yusaku tie Ai back to that duel disk? Did he really fucking do that.

So Flame’s the one telling Homura who’s who in the real world (so they know Aoi=Blue Angel, Naoki=Brave Max, ect). Those wacky kids with their bad haircuts and their arson and their doxxing.

But is it just doxxing? They know Yusaku=Playmaker, and even Ryoken couldn’t figure that one out for the longest. Can one (or both) of them telll who’s-who just by looking at them?

HOMURA HIDES FROM YUSAKU lmao what a spazz. I feel that feel.

“[Yusaku and Ai] are heroes who defeated the Knights and saved the world. They’re not shut-ins like you.” “I fought too!” “With yourself. I just needed to get that down because boi. This dialogue.

Homura and Yusaku get to talking. Homura let’s Yusaku know that

he knows Yusaku=Playmaker

admits he’s Soulburner, and

that he was a victim in The Lost Incident, with Flame being “his” ignis

But this line is interesting: “I’m also a victim of The Lost Incident. He arrived after the Tower of Hanoi, and I learned what happened to me.“

Like okay bitch?? Did you not know beforehand??? Are memory shenanigans going to be an actual thing.

THE BOYS GET ON A FERRIS WHEEL SO THEY CAN TALK IN PRIVATE (at Flame’s request. Cause he didn’t want snoopers and fuckin loves ferris wheels)

According to Flame:

the ignises discussed how they should interact with humans after Ai hid the Cyberse, since the KoH attacking them showed that humans were capable of attacking them

the irony of Kogami’s self-fulfilling prophecy is not lost on Yusaku

before the ignises could decide how to interact with humans, a “new enemy” attacked and wiped out the Cyberse. Couldn’t be the KoH since they were still busy with the Tower at the time.

so they escaped, Flame contacted Homura, and doesn’t know where the other four are

And! The ignises don’t know each other’s kids, only their own.

Yusaku suggests going to Shoichi for help on this, doesn’t think his emotional turmoil over Jin will effect his work.... #KeepTemptingFate

Back at SOL, Akira introduces Go to irl!Blood Sheapard, who hides his face even in the real world lmao

Go really. Really. Wants to defeat Playmaker himself, since he’s “always one step ahead of [him].”

Tbh I get that. Go probably would’ve challenged Playmaker to a rematch if the dude didn’t disappear off the net for three months. Becoming a bounty hunter was probably his last resort lol

Go and Blood Shepard don’t get along and honestly? Akira’s loving it.

Anyway, Yusaku introduces Homura to Shoichi, they talk about things and stuff. The long and the short of it is, SOL could’ve been involved in what happened to Jin and the Cyberse

Shoichi shows Yusaku a weird program he found around where Haru and Bowman disappeared; Yusaku says it’s similar to Ai’s program

It’s an ignis program!

In New Link Vrains, Playmaker and Soulburner are surfing the web like the Cool Dude’s (tm) they are, looking for traces of Gotta Go Green

They don’t find anything Shoichi can use, but

“DEAR DADDY LONG LEGS”

Ghost Girl sent them info on how to get into the restricted area

AI THINKS IT’S A TRAP, AND HONESTLY? I AGREE.

They quickly figure out that Akira is the source of this info, meaning he WANTS them to look around there, so. It’s 100% a trap.
