Sabrina's eyelids slowly fluttered open, and the sight of her darkened room began to come into view. A sigh escaped her lips, and she stretched her arm trying to reach her cellphone on the nightstand. Rolling on her side, Sabrina pressed the button that made the screen come to life in bright and annoying colors. Sabrina jumped out of bed upon the realization that she had missed her alarm. "Damn it!" She exclaimed as the sound of rustling covers filled the cozy bedroom. She had overslept. Again. It was the second time it happened that week, and it was only Wednesday. Sabrina couldn't help but think it was something expected. Over the past month, she had brought work home with her every day, which meant she would work on cases until eerie hours.
Multitasking was the operative word of the morning. Sabrina attempted to fix her mascara while transferring the contents of one handbag to another, brushing her hair while zipping her skirt and believed she had handled her morning tasks at record time. All she needed in order to go were her shoes. Sabrina wanted to wear the black pumps she had bought as a gift for herself the previous Christmas, and it seemed that just because she had made up her mind on what to wear, it was the one pair of shoes she couldn't find. She tried her closet, then knelt down, running her hand through the white duvet, the one with tiny yellow daylilies print. Sabrina lifted the duvet up to glance under the bed. The movement disrupted particles of dust that were settled, which made Sabrina's nose itch and wrinkle. They weren't there. They weren't in any of the usual places.
It was when Sabrina concluded what the only thing that could have happened to them was. Leaving her room in a hurry, she crossed the distance that separated her bedroom and Olivia's. Her bare feet muffling the sound of her steps. "Olivia!" She shouted, pushing the door to her sister's room open. "Have you seen my shoes?"
