I’ve had all day to think about this. And I don’t even use this godforsaken app, so just using this as a place to rant.
Here’s my two cents about this whole situation.
Louis does not know who he is. And that creates an insane divide between the fandom. When it comes to other artists, despite disagreements in their fandoms there is a lot of things all of them fundamentally agree on.
Such is not the case with solo louies vs multistans/ot5s/larries.
There is a Louis that wants to break into the indie rock scene. Who says his favourite songs are from Arctic Monkeys and Fontaines DC and his inspirations are all punk and indie and rock. The solos want that future for him.
There is a Louis that is still nostalgic about the band he was in. I’m saying nostalgia but what the ot5s and larries would call it would be: love.
There is a Louis who tweets: one more day! in anticipation of the UK Charts result, and thanks his fans, gets excited and proud and encourages his solo fans to buy 100s of copies of his album. Stream his songs to the max.
And there is a Louis that says that he doesn’t care about charts. The ot5s and larries cling to this, and while they listen to his music and buy it, they don’t feel any pressure of getting him those numbers because according to them Louis would rather be loved than famous. So they love him. In their own way.
I often would think how is it that we disagree with larries on literally everything. Leaked songs. Charting. Streaming. Fan projects. There is not one thing we agree on.
The only way through this is for Louis to make up his mind. Because right now, he’s been playing both fields and everytime he sways one way, the other side feels alienated.
When he does this, he’s essentially telling them: hey so everything you based your opinion on, for being a fan of mine is wrong. Any normal person in this situation would lash out, their whole belief system is being challenged because of his actions.
So he can choose what he wants, the career or the nostalgia, the streaming projects or #AlwaysOnYourSideLouis.
Cause this little experiment is gonna crash and burn sooner or later.
