blue orb: jonghyun’s leave;
It’s been six years now, four years since he returned.
She remembered that day well, when Jonghyun finally went about his mandatory military service. She saw him off along with their parents, standing around the area where all the other sons who were entering the same time he was were. Jihyun teased him about his shaved hair, how he looked better when it was longer and styled up. Of course that was what she was used to seeing him as. He could go back to that style when he came back after two years.
Two years wasn’t a long time, she told herself. She wouldn’t even be finished with university by the time he came back. She could distract herself with classes, go out and meet new people, walk around to think up new video ideas and not about how there wouldn’t be someone she could bother constantly when she came home. She wouldn’t think about someone not being there to pick up the guitar and string notes together until inspiration finally hit. She wouldn’t think about how there wouldn’t be someone to walk around with, switching from normal conversation to quizzing each other about what movie/anime/show a quote came from. She wouldn’t think about someone not comforting her, the person who knew her best and who’s been with her through thick and thin whether they liked it or not. Because if she did, her heart would hurt a lot.
He was going to be a man now, going to shape up to be a soldier and serve their country. Jihyun could let him slide for that.
It was just one long hug from her among the string of jokes to keep the mood up, but she already felt it, the tears welling up the longer they didn’t want to pull away from each other. It was getting harder by the second but even harder for Jonghyun, she knew. She was sure that the tears were already falling for him, but one of them had to remain strong or else both of them would be a bawling mess.
“Don’t miss us too much, yeah?” she said with a pat on his shoulder and a smile too wide to control her sadness. A ‘you look ugly’ was thrown in there somewhere although there was no guarantee of which twin uttered it.
They had to let him go eventually; Jihyun and their parents didn’t leave while he was walking away, staying until they couldn’t see him anymore.
The coil that trapped her heart and squeezed it didn’t loosen until she let her own tears fall in the comfort of her own room. She was going to miss him more than she realized.
